Advantages RX 580 Nitro+

1. The first and most important advantage is the cooling system.

It’s not even cool that it is so effective in passive that it shows 36 degrees in idle, and not even that in load at a speed of only 1500-1600, without making any noise, it heats up only up to 76 degrees (not we forget that it is 1411 MHz), and the fact that its fans are removed so easily that it’s even scary to imagine — 1 bolt is unscrewed and then removed with a slight movement of the hand. Everything is as simple as with a bikini))).

The cooling system would be just perfect if not for one but, but about this «but» in the shortcomings. It is short in itself, but very massive, adjacent to both the GPU and the memory and VRM. From an unheated card, even if you unscrew all this many bolts, you cannot remove it, the thermal pads on the memory chips and the power system are so strong. We look and admire.

If you have a case with a front blower fan, then the design of the video card allows air to easily pass into the fins of the cooling system. Although the video card looks discreet, but technologically everything is very well thought out in it.

By the way, the backplate is also part of the cooling. It is attached to the video card not only with a bunch of bolts, but also with thermal pads and cools the VRM elements located at the back of the video card. So it’s not just for beauty, although it looks stylish. This, of course, is not ASUS ROG with RGB backlighting, but it still emphasizes the design of the video card very well. However, this video card still lacks bright colors in the design. She deserves to shine, but the sapphire is of a different opinion.

2. The second — the most important advantage for the players — almost the maximum frequency of the GPU «out of the box.»

In more detail, the video card has 2 BIOS chips on board, with different GPU frequencies embedded in them. With an overclocked BIOS, the video chip operates at a frequency of 1411 MHz, which is almost the maximum for Polaris 20. (More than 1460 MHz, without raising the voltage and adjusting the Power Limit, the chip cannot work stably) There is also a second Gaming BIOS, in which the chip frequency will not exceed 1340 MHz, at which the video card becomes colder, but again, is this mode needed if the video card does not throttle and does not heat up to critical values at a frequency of 1411 MHz. Only those who save electricity.
To switch the BIOS, the video card has a small inconspicuous switch. The inscription about its location on the backplate (BIOS SWITCH) will help you find it.

3. The third advantage is the video card power system.

8pin + 6pin — this delights someone, scares someone, someone doesn’t give a damn and he connects both with adapters from 4-pin “molex” (there are few of them, but there are some and they don’t turn it on). In fact, this is done for a margin of safety during overclocking and offloading power to more power phases, which leads to greater stability, both in overclocking and without, and simply allows already reliable batteries to live longer.

Speaking of batteries

Black Diamond Choke 4 chokes — 10% less heat and 25% more energy efficient than conventional chokes. New 4th generation chokes with built-in heatsinks for cooling
Capacitors up to 200,000 hours. High polymer, aluminum capacitors provide outstanding reliability. Yes, yes, those new dark gray solid capacitors.

4. Compact size compared to competitors with similar specifications.

In simple terms, this is the shortest RX 580 video card with a frequency of more than 1410 MHz in which there is no overheating and noisy fans.
See for yourself here it is and ASUS ROG STRIX TOP.

I do not argue Asus is more powerful by 20 MHz and it has 8 GB, but it also costs much more and it is much noisier, but it is also colder. To each his own, but I still consider the compact size an advantage for video cards of a slightly above average level. Once we were walking with my friend from work and discussed what kind of laptop he should buy. He wanted a laptop no more than 13 inches and was quite happy with 10. To which I retorted, they say it is impossible to get a compact and more or less powerful laptop of this size and that I will never exchange performance for compactness. And so we argued for a long time, walking along an almost deserted road on a summer evening, and a girl of almost model appearance met us. And then she walks past us and my friend, fiercely defending his position, shouts out “Small is cool.” You should have seen the face and heard the sincere laughter of this girl. Of course, she did not think about the video card, but speaking about the hero of our review, I agree with my friend — the small size of the video card, while maintaining powerful characteristics and good temperature performance, is cool. This video card has everything as I wrote now. 76 degrees with a continuous maximum load is an excellent result. At 1500 — 1600 rpm, this is generally amazing. But this is where we start talking about the shortcomings.

Disadvantages

1. The main disadvantage is fan speed control

I welcome the creation of quiet video cards, but it looks like sapphire decided to do this fanatically. Well, actually. Add 200-300 rpm, the card will not become much noisier, but the temperature will drop by at least 6 degrees. Not a huge figure, of course, but this is in my case, when the Zalman z3 case (3 fans in silent mode about 900 rpm), I’m just pleased when my video card does not heat up to more than 70 degrees and I think you would not refuse it , moreover, with an almost unchanged noise level. What is going on in stuffy, completely closed cases, and I’ll tell you what — the vidyuha heats the entire system. So if you have such a completely closed case, devoid of fans, and even the power supply in it is located on top and the cooler on the boxed processor, forget about this video card, look towards models with a lower frequency or change the case, which I think will be more reasonable.

2. The second and last disadvantage is high power consumption

Is it a disadvantage? For me, no, but you need to be objective, for many this is a disadvantage. For those who do not want to spend money on a normal power supply that produces an honest 500 watts and has at least one 8-pin connector for a video card (the second one can be connected with an adapter from two molex to 6-pin, it will work, but I do not advise doing this) greedy miners counting every penny for electricity. For environmentalists who are trying to stuff their home with exceptionally energy-efficient electronics. For ordinary players, all this is unimportant and they are ready to put up with this shortcoming, for the sake of games. Speaking of games, we will soon begin tests in them, but first we will talk about overclocking.
Oh yes, I forgot it consumes 180 watts without overclocking. The power limit of the chip is 175 watts wired into the BIOS, but do not forget that there is also video memory, coolers, backlight …. they also consume energy, although not so much, so the video card can consume more than 175 watts without additional raising the Power Limit.

Overclocking

Without raising the voltage on the GPU, you can only reach 1460 MHz. This is the maximum while maintaining full stability in any game. However, there is a need to raise the Power Limit by 15% so that the video card has enough power for such a frequency. In order to reach a higher frequency, you need to unlock the voltage control and monitoring in the Afterburner, and if necessary, check the box «Extend the limits of the official overclocking mode» so that the sliders in the Afterburner move further. but be careful because the video card can be burned. Also, when overclocking, it’s not a bad idea to raise the fan speed to at least 1900 rpm and the video card will become even colder than without overclocking.
Memory easily reaches the 2000 MHz mark, but it’s better not to overclock further if you don’t want to get artifacts in games and reduce the life of the video card, because. if artifacts are already appearing, this means that the video memory is running out of steam and it is unlikely to be useful to it.

Tests in games

Who needs boring numbers that reflect the number of parrots scored in benchmarks. Benchmarks are needed only to check the «departures» during overclocking. Let’s start testing in games. The most modern and most beloved games at the present time in which there is something for everyone.
In tests, each game has a minimum and maximum number of fps recorded by me for 2 hours of playing with and without overclocking, as well as a gameplay recording. Unfortunately, the AVERMEDIA video capture card failed to record all the games, so I decided to record all the games without exception using ReLive. The frames per second values are less than without it, but not as significant as it might seem, and there are graphs that reflect the real FPS output by the video card WITHOUT using ReLive technology, and the videos are needed to reflect the quality of the graphics and in order to show what would happen if you I wanted to stream games with this video card in conjunction with RYZEN 5 1600.
