While you are warming up, we will briefly remind you that the idea for this material came about by accident. In one of the past, we tested the adequacy of the PC assembly autogenerator from the TELEMART.ua store. The one with a wide selection of components, everything for eSports, ongoing promotions and even a section with discounted goods for those who want to save a little.

Under the given parameters, the autogenerator offered three options. We chose the cheapest one with Ryzen 5 1600 AF at the base. But recently, this processor has often flashed in our materials, so we decided to test the Core i3-10105F.

Moreover, these are the two most popular options in Telemart. In the comments, you asked to compare the resulting bundle with a similar assembly on AM4 with Ryzen 5 on board. This is the request we are fulfilling.

In the original config, we changed only two positions — the processor and the motherboard. The original Ryzen 5 1600 came out in 2017. It is based on the 14nm Zen architecture and features 6 cores, 12 threads with an unlocked multiplier and a 65W TDP. And in 2019In the same year, the Ryzen 5 1600 AF version appeared with 12nm Zen + architecture and similar characteristics.

Since the AMD processor is more expensive than Intel, the motherboard was taken cheaper than last time, so that the total assembly costs were approximately equal. The choice fell on the proven and popular MSI B450M PRO-VDH MAX. It is suitable for future upgrades, offers a heatsink for the VRM part, an M.2 slot for fast storage and a reinforced video card slot.

Other components have not changed. Let’s go through them quickly. See the previous article for more details.

In order to save money, we use a boxed cooler with a 92mm fan. At the same time, let’s see if it allows you to at least slightly overclock the processor. And whether there will be at the same time stable work.

The 16 GB DDR4-2666 GOODRAM IRDM X Black RAM kit was easily overclocked to 3200 MHz with CL16 timings and 1.25 V. It was possible to speed it up to 3600, but with raising the timings. We decided to keep assemblies as equal as possible and left the memory unchanged.

Uses a 2.5-inch third-generation GOODRAM CL100 SSD with a capacity of 480 GB for OS, games and other data storage. For most budget systems, it will be enough. Endurance is declared at the level of 350 TB, and the warranty is 3 years.

Graphics processing was entrusted to the low-profile MSI GeForce GTX 1650 Low Profile OC video card with a slight factory overclocking of the GPU frequency Boost from 1665 to 1695 MHz. Video memory is represented by 4 GB GDDR5, although there are versions with GDDR6 on sale.

The CHIEFTEC Task series 500W power supply is a good workhorse in this segment. It offers a single +12V channel with a load capacity of up to 456W. He also has an 80 PLUS Bronze certificate and a full list of protections. Read more about it in our review.

The Deepcool MATREXX 30 has gained popularity due to its thoughtful design and good features. It has ventilation holes on the front panel and a viewing window on the side. It is designed with an eye on compact systems with microATX and Mini-ITX boards.

The cost of these assemblies and the exchange rate were taken at the time of compiling the first config:

The stock clock speeds of the processors are too different. To level things up a bit, we overclocked the Ryzen 5 across all cores to 3.8GHz. In theory, under a boxed cooler, it is possible up to 4 GHz, but then overheating is possible in tasks that are demanding on the processor.

This is what we see in the stress test. The maximum temperature of the cores rose to 99°C at a critical value of 95°C, but there was no throttling and the frequency was stable at 3.8 GHz. The system worked in this mode without reboots.

The feasibility of overclocking was tested in several synthetic benchmarks. The speed of working with memory in AIDA64 did not change much after overclocking. A system with Ryzen 5 feels better when reading and copying data. Writing information is a little faster with the Core i3.

And, of course, the RAM access latency for Intel processors is traditionally lower.

In 3DMark Fire Stike , we first look at the Physics Score. At face value, Ryzen 5 outperforms the competitor by 23%. After overclocking, the advantage increases to 31%.

Similar to the picture, but with a smaller gap gives 3DMark Time Spy . At nominal, the AMD chip is faster than Intel by 11% in terms of CPU Score, and in overclocking — by 20%. Maybe we overclocked it in vain, because it already feels great in synthetics? Let’s not jump to conclusions though.

Cross-platform 3DMark Wild Life relies more on the graphics subsystem. And here it is the same. But still, overclocking the processor is useful. In nominal terms, the assembly with Core i3 is 2% faster. After overclocking, the minimal victory is on the side of Ryzen 5.

And finally, in PCMark , the Intel processor did not feel the competition. In stock, its advantage tends to 15%. Overclocking the Ryzen 5 helped bring the difference down to a maximum of 12%.

Ryzen 5 3600
  • Ryzen 5 3600 has higher L3 cache. This is useful when you have significant multi-processor workloads, many computational processes at the same time. Rather on a server rather than a personal computer for interactive workloads.
  • In some games, a processor with a higher clock speed, or with the technical name IPC (Instructions per clock), performs better than other processors with more cores and a lower core frequency.
  • The Ryzen 5 3600 has a higher turbo clock. Turbo Boost is a processor feature that will run at a processor clock speed faster than its base clock speed if certain conditions are present. This will allow older software that runs on fewer cores to run better on newer hardware. Since games are also software, they are also applicable.
  • Ryzen 5 3600 The Ryzen 5 3600 has a smaller process size. The faster a transistor can turn on and off, the faster it can work. And transistors that turn on and off with less power are more efficient, reducing the operating power or «dynamic power» required by the processor.
