News
Volodymyr Skripin
Volodymyr SkripinToday, at a special event ahead of Computex 2019, AMD officially announced the highly anticipated 3rd Gen AMD Ryzen (Ryzen 3000) processors based on the new Zen 2 architecture with multi-chiplet architecture, the world’s first 7nm desktop processors. The new CPUs have an AM4 design and can be used both with new motherboards based on the X570 logic set, and with previously released models after updating the UEFI firmware.
The first wave of new Ryzen 3000 desktop processors debuted five models of the Ryzen 9, 7, and 5 lines.
Number of cores/threads Nominal/Boost frequency, GHz L2 cache, KB L3 cache, MB TDP, W Recommended cost, USD Ryzen 9 3900X 12 / 24 3.8-4.6 12 x 512 64 105 $499 Ryzen 7 3800X 8 / 16 3.9-4.5 8 x 512 32 105 $399 Ryzen 7 3700X 8 / 16 3.6-4.4 8 x 512 32 65 $329 Ryzen 5 3600X 6 / 12 3.8-4.4 6 x 512 32 95 $249 Ryzen 5 3600 6 / 12 3. 6-4.2 6 x 512 32 65 $199 So heading the new AMD Ryzen desktop chip family is the $49 12-core Ryzen 9 3900X with Simultaneous Multi-threading (SMT) support.9. It will compete with the 12-core Intel i9-9920X, which costs more than twice as much as $1189. At the same time, the Ryzen 9 3900X is not only faster, but also significantly more energy efficient than its rival. The TDP of the new product is 105 W against 165 W for the Intel i9-9920X.
All 3rd Gen AMD Ryzen desktop processors are built on the new Zen 2 multi-chip architecture, delivering up to 15% performance gains across all applications. One of the main drawbacks of the previous Zen architecture is floating point performance. In the second generation of the microarchitecture, engineers doubled the capacity and increased the load and store bandwidth for floating point operations to 256-bit, as well as increased the throughput of internal data streams in all CPU modes. In addition, the amount of cache memory has doubled. The flagship operates at a frequency of 3.8 to 4.6 GHz and beats the Intel i9 in rendering operations in the Blender test-9920X by 16%.
Intel’s «World’s Fastest Gaming Processor» i9-9900K is up against the $399 8-core, 16-thread Ryzen 7 3800X. Considering the impressive price/performance ratio, this chip is sure to become the chip of choice among gamers.
The latest addition to the Ryzen 7 lineup, the 3700X, is a $329 octa-core chip that is more energy efficient. The TDP of this model is only 65 W versus 105 W for older brothers. According to AMD, in Cinebench R20 single-threaded and multi-threaded tests, the superiority of the new model over its predecessor 2700X reaches 15% and 18%, respectively. If we compare the new product with the competing Core i7-9700K for $385, performance gain in multi-threaded Cinebench reaches 28%. Approximately the same new «red» bypasses the proposal of the «blue» and in a single-threaded test.
