New Intel i7-13700K and AMD Ryzen 7 7700X processors clash in games and benchmarks — HU test , but also all those who choose a platform for price / performance, and not for reasons of adherence to any fan camp. If the previous generation of Ryzen 5000 managed to put its «blue» competitor on the shoulder blades, then in the new generations of Intel Raptor Lake and Ryzen 7000 the situation turned out to be extremely ambiguous.

Intel is on the side of the lower price of processors and the possibility of using DDR4 memory, while in order to switch to the AM5 platform, in addition to buying a processor, you need to change the motherboard and RAM, the prices of which are frankly biting at the moment. Nevertheless, the main parameter of the choice of the buyer, in addition to price, remained and remains the question of the level of performance. But here, buyers are most often interested in compromise models that are between frankly budget solutions and meaningless for many ultimate tops.

Youtube channel Hardware Unboxed decided to compare the latest Intel i7-13700K and AMD Ryzen 7 7700X processors, both in games and in synthetic benchmarks. Tested with an NVIDIA RTX 4090 graphics card at 1080p and 1440p.

At the beginning of the video, the author notes the improvements that the Intel i7-13700K received compared to its predecessor i7-12700K. This includes the frequency increased to 5. 4 GHz in Boost mode, and the increased amount of L2 and L3 cache memory, with a doubled number of energy-efficient cores.

Of course, having a large total number of cores, the Intel i7-13700K has a theoretical advantage over the 8-core 16-thread Ryzen 7 7700X, but whether this is so remains to be seen now. But first, it’s worth noting that the Intel i7-13700K has an average retail price of around $450, which is $50 more than the Ryzen 7 7700X is asking for, but $100 cheaper than the Ryzen 9 7900X.

In the popular Cinebench33 benchmark in the multi-threaded test, the «blue» processor, taking advantage of its multi-core superiority, naturally left the «red» competitor far behind. Here, the rival of the i7-13700K is only the more expensive 12-core Ryzen 97900X.

In the single-threaded test, the situation changes, but everything still remains in favor of the i7-13700K, which not only outperformed the Ryzen 7 7700X, but also caught up with the flagship Ryzen 9 7950X.

Let’s move on to games.

Testing in 12 games at 1080p showed that both rivals are equal, alternately leading in various projects. At the same time, when using DDR4 memory paired with the i7-13700K, its performance drops by 9%, sending it to clear outsiders. The Ryzen 7 7700X itself is second only to the top i9 in games-13900K, beating Ryzen 9’s own flagship 7950X.

1440p does not change the balance of power and the Ryzen 7 7700X is still ahead.

In terms of power consumption, the AM5 system shows much better efficiency.

The temperatures of the i7-13700K with AIO cooling showed no improvement over the previous i7-12700K. If the latter at its peak reached only 80 degrees Celsius, then the novelty at its peak reached 100 degrees.

As a result, we can conclude that for an average user who does not use professional software, the choice between Intel i7-13700K and AMD Ryzen 7 7700X processors will determine the price of the final assembly, since they perform almost on an equal footing in everyday tasks and games, provided that the Intel i7-13700K will work with DDR5 RAM.
