Biostar announces its AMD Ryzen 3000 motherboards will launch at Computex

Dave James

Published:

AMD

Biostar has just announced it will be launching its new range of motherboards for the AMD Ryzen 3000 series processors at Computex this year. That would seem to indicate that we will have X570 boards launching between May 28 and June 1, 2019. And I wouldn’t expect to see Biostar as the lonestar launcher of next-gen motherboards, so we can now be pretty confident that all the top new motherboards for AMD’s Zen 2 generation of chips will not only be on show in Taipei, but they will launch from there too.

It doesn’t necessarily follow that AMD will also launch the Ryzen 3000 CPUs at the same time, there is existing precedent for chip manufacturers to launch their motherboards ahead of the processors they’ve been designed for. After all, the new X570 boards will all still come sporting AM4 sockets and will therefore be backwards compatible with all the existing Ryzen 1000 and Ryzen 2000 series CPUs.

But we do expect to hear a great deal about the new Zen 2-powered processors given that Dr. Lisa Su will be delivering its first Computex keynote this year on May 27, and you’ve got to believe that with the X570 board launching at the end of May the CPUs themselves can’t be far behind. AMD’s CEO may make the launch announcement there, making all of its motherboard partners weapons-free to show off their new wares at the Taiwanese tech show.

The information has come via a press release slipped into my inbox by Biostar itself. This is no leak, it’s come direct from the company detailing its plans for Computex this year and inviting us to visit its booth at the Nangang exhibition centre in Taipei. It’s an enticing invite, and our Jacob will be dragging his jet-lagged self around the show come the end of May.

Not just chips: These are the best gaming mice around today

But the point is that it’s touting the launch of “its latest RACING series motherboards powered by the next AMD Ryzen generation at COMPUTEX 2019.”

The 2nd generation of its RACING motherboards was released for the original Ryzen chips, and the 3rd gen series accompanied the X470 release for the Ryzen 2000 series. And so it stands to reason that the 4th gen RACING motherboards must mean X570 boards for the AMD Ryzen 3000 release.

The X570 boards will differ from the existing X470 et al in that they’re going to be the first motherboards to actually offer us PCIe 4.0 support for both our CPUs and GPUs. Currently there are none of either, but the Ryzen 3000 processors will take care of one side of that and the AMD Navi graphics cards ought to take care of the other.

“The BIOSTAR RACING Series of high-performance motherboards feature the latest technologies for performance and aesthetics. The BIOSTAR RACING Series is geared towards gamers and power users that demand performance with great stability and reliability. BIOSTAR will be demonstrating the 4th generation RACING Series powered by the next-generation AMD Ryzen processors to highlight its capabilities in gaming, entertainment, and professional use.”

You can bet there’ll be a whole load more next-gen AMD motherboards for our Jacob to get his grubby mitts on while he’s out in Taipei next month. And we’ll bring you more as soon as we get it.

ASUS motherboards based on AMD X570 will be noticeably more expensive than their predecessors

3DNews Technologies and IT market. News motherboards ASUS motherboards based on AMD X570 …

The most interesting in the reviews

06/12/2019 [09:01],

Andrey Sozinov

At the end of last month, many motherboard manufacturers, including ASUS, presented at Computex 2019their new products based on the AMD X570 chipset. However, the cost of these new products has not been announced. Now, with the approaching release date of new motherboards, more and more new details about their cost are becoming clear, and these details are not at all encouraging.

Resource TechPowerUp received a price list with recommended prices in US dollars of some upcoming ASUS X570-based motherboards from a reliable source in Taiwan. The most affordable model, ASUS Prime X570-P, is estimated by the manufacturer at $160. The TUF Gaming X570-Plus, which is close to it in terms of characteristics, is already priced at $170, and its Wi-Fi 6 version is $185. In general, it’s not all that bad.

However, the next model Prime X570-Pro will cost quite a lot of $250, while its predecessor — Prime X470-Pro — is estimated at only $150. It turns out that the price increased by 66%. At the same time, these motherboards are positioned as mid-range solutions.

For the upper segment, ASUS has the ROG Strix and ROG Crosshair series. The most affordable board here is the $300 ROG Strix X570-F, followed by the $330 ROG Strix X570-E. In turn, the ROG Crosshair VIII Hero motherboard is already priced at $360, which is again $100 more than the price of its predecessor, the ROG Crosshair VII Hero. The ROG Crosshair VIII Hero Wi-Fi version with Wi-Fi 802.11ax support will cost $380.

Finally, the flagship ROG Crosshair VIII Formula will become the most expensive ASUS motherboard based on the AMD X570 chipset. It is valued at $700. Note that some ASUS Rampage Extreme boards for Intel HEDT processors cost about the same. And this is a slightly different class of systems.

The reason for such not the most democratic price tags is, of course, the desire to make money on advanced products. In particular, the X570 platform is the first in the consumer segment to offer PCI Express 4.0 support. In addition, AMD’s X570 chipset turned out to be much more complex than previous solutions developed by ASMedia. Because of this, it was necessary to significantly rework and complicate the design of each of the motherboards, as well as the creation of active cooling systems for chipsets.

And in the end, I would like to note that against the background of this news, the price of the AMD Ryzen 3000 series processors cannot but rejoice. She remained the same as her predecessors. For example, the Ryzen 7 3700X will cost the same $329 as the Ryzen 7 2700X at launch. Recall that the new AMD processors, and with them the new motherboards, should go on sale as early as July 7th.
