The main features and differences from the previous generation:

The main changes compared to the previous generation (+5-10% at equal frequencies), as well as improved performance of the memory controller

  • DDR4 memory is officially supported at frequencies up to 2400 MHz (Haswell has a limit of 2133 MHz). As before, for younger models, the frequency limit is lower and equal to 2133 or 1866 MHz
  • Support for 3DS LRDIMM memory modules
  • Slightly reduced power consumption from the new architecture + from the new process
  • Support for some new instructions, including the Intel TSX instruction set, deactivated in Haswell due to hardware errors found in the kernel
  • Now when executing AVX instruction frequency is reduced only for those cores that are directly involved in AVX calculations
  • An unfortunate, but quite understandable closure of a bug that made possible the turbo boost hack on Haswell processors.
