90,000 review of characteristics, performance and dispersal

How does the Xeon X5460 differ from the E-series processors, for example, the same E5450? The differences are not many, but they are quite significant. X5460:

    • Slightly higher multiplier (9.5 vs. 9), which means higher frequency and more overclocking potential
    • 1.5 times higher heat dissipation, 120W vs. 80W
    • Almost 1.5 times lower cost At a lower price, a processor can provide higher overclocking, but this will require serious attention to cooling. Reviews about working with inexpensive aluminum coolers do not bode well. Therefore, those who want to save money are better off considering colder models. nine0003

If you’re on a tight budget, but old builds still have a good cooler for socket 775 and a decent motherboard, the X5460 is your choice.

      Revisions

Like most server processors for socket 775, the Xeon X5460 has two steppings: C0 and E0. The second is considered more promising for overclocking, but the difference will hardly be noticeable in normal use.

Stepping is easy to determine, each step has its own code printed on the processor cover. For C0 this is SLANP, for E0 it is SLBBA. nine0003

In addition, there are 3 engineering samples that were intended for testing. Their codes are: Q3GX, Q5XQ, QFTX. It is not worth buying such stones, and there are almost none on sale.

      Overclocking

The processor shows impressive results and can take a frequency of 4.0 — 4.3 GHz, which is practically inaccessible for Xeon series E and even more so L. You need to be prepared for the fact that the already rather large heat dissipation during such overclocking will become even greater, especially if you need to increase the voltage. The maximum temperature of the cores is 85 degrees and it is desirable to have a small margin (at least 5 degrees) even at maximum load. nine0003

      Purchase

It is better to order Xeon on aliexpress. There are trusted stores that quickly send the order and guarantee a pre-sale check of the stone. You can also purchase RAM here.

      Processor: option one or two.

      RAM:

      • DDR2 800 MHz (suitable for medium overclocking): one, two and three options.
