Improved
Multi Sample Anti-Aliasing MSAA Technology
Smooth lines is the difference between bitty low quality graphics to a smooth realistic graphics.
MSAA smoothes out the jagged edges of a curved object. A black curved line on a white background displayed on a computer screen will have some jaggedness along its edges due to the inherent limitations of using discrete pixels to display the image. Anti-aliasing smoothes out this jaggedness by filling in the white spaces between the jagged edges with varying shades of grey which gives you the smooth soft shadows, crisp sharp lines of buildings, and crisp tiny details in clothing that make your experience truely realistic.
Bullet
Physics Engine Technology
Get the most out of your gaming experience with real 3D Physics.
Take advantage of the 3D Physics capabilities of some of today’s newest titles which include completely destructable objects, walls and buildings collapsing from gun fire, real particle effects such as fire that react to the environment and realistic details such as moving hair, water and much more.
Compatible with the newest
Direct X Technology
Meets the standards of the newest games with the latest Direct X driver compatibility.
With every new generation of Direct X, major improvements are made which greatly advance the graphics capabilities of games. That’s why it is essential to ensure that you are using a graphics card with the newest Direct X driver compatibility so that you’ll get the most out of your gaming experience. See the difference for yourself.
Partially Resident Textures
PRT Technology
Radically change the detail of your games from flat to realistic.
Even in the latest titles, gamers may have noticed that games often reuse or repeat textures, particularly on the ground or in background scenery such as mountains or trees. This is because increasing the physical size or number of textures in a game can have a negative impact on the performance of a GPU. PRT is a radical technology that hopes to break this cycle.

AMD graphics card — Sapphire HD 6670: connectors, cooler, memory
When you first see AMD’s Sapphire HD 6670, you will notice that the device is based on a bright blue printed circuit board. Unlike many cards, the Turks GPU has a rather small cooler. Sapphire decided to keep the acoustic background as quiet as possible by installing cooling from Arctic Cooling, which promises to provide acceptable temperatures at a very low noise level. Sapphire HD6670 supports Microsoft DirectX 11, Shader Model 5.0 and OpenGL 4.1 for the best picture quality. With this graphics card, you’ll get AMD’s implementation of Accelerated Parallel Processing technology, which dramatically speeds up the most demanding tasks by offloading parallel computing processes from the CPU to the GPU, improving overall system performance.
To connect displays, the card allows you to choose one of three solutions — DVI, HDMI, and DisplayPort 1.2. At the reverse end of the card there is an additional space for air venting. Most cards have an external PCI-E network adapter in this location, but the HD 6670 does not require any additional power and is able to get the required voltage from the PCI-E 2.0 slot on the motherboard.
The Sapphire HD 6670 has a Turks GPU running at 800 MHz core and 1000 MHz memory. The elements are made using 40 nm technology, which allows the board to operate at a fairly low power consumption, while generating less heat. The card has four GDDR5 Hynix H5GQ2h34MFR T2C 103A memory modules with a total capacity of 1024 MB, that is, each module has a capacity of 256 MB. According to information from the Hynix website, the memory installed on the HD 6670 provides data transfer rates up to 3.6 Gb / s and is powered by 1.5 volts.
Sapphire has chosen an unusual solution for the HD 6670 cooling system. The card is equipped with the most common, maximally simplified cooler, but sometimes the simplest solutions turn out to be the most effective.
Production technology. Temperature conditions
As noted earlier, the semiconductor base of the AMD Radeon HD 6570 was manufactured according to the 40-nm process technology. The method of obtaining transistor elements is SOI or “silicon on a dielectric”, which was well developed and provided a high percentage of the yield of suitable silicon crystals. The maximum temperature value for this accelerator corresponded to 100°C. In reality, even when performing the most resource-intensive tasks and in combination with a passive heat removal system, this value did not exceed
- AMD Eyefinity — the ability to play on three monitors.
- 40 nm manufacturing technology – high performance and efficiency.
- PCI-Express 2.0 — Up to 5 Gb/s data transfer rate increase
- AMD HD3D — High resolution stereoscopic 3D illusion technology.
- Dual-Link DVI Provides resolutions up to 2560 x 1600 at 60Hz.
- HDMI 1.4a — Highest quality video output.
- DisplayPort Provides high resolution 2560 x 1600 when connected to the latest LCD monitors.
- DisplayPort 1.2 — Bandwidth extension and multi-streaming support for video transmission.
- Microsoft DirectX 11 — unique effects and graphics quality.
- OpenGL 4.1 — graphics acceleration in applications that do not support DirectX.
- Shader Model 5.0 — improved graphics quality in modern games.
- AMD Catalyst Control Center – control and configuration of all video card parameters.
- Accelerated Video Transcoding – video encoding/decoding acceleration.
- Dolby TrueHD and DT SHD Master Audio Support — the highest sound quality.
- Anti-aliasing features — Improve graphics quality and game performance Acceleration of the work of Internet browsers
- Improvement with Microsoft Office 2010
- Windows 7 Support-perfect compatibility with your system
- ACD -increase in the speed of appendices 9000 9000 9090 video adapter (Turks XT) works with 128-bit RAM. Inside the chip, there are two 64-bit controllers operating in Dual Channel mode, which is an acceptable solution for a budget segment card.
The 6670 accelerator was produced in two versions: with DDR3 and GDDR5 memory. Moreover, both types of memory did not correspond to him a little. DDR3 running at 667 MHz was slower than the chip, while GDDR5 running at 1000 MHz was slightly faster.
In later models, it was possible to achieve synchronous operation of the memory and the chip at a frequency of 800 MHz.
The card could not fully reveal the potential of GDDR5 memory, although some of its models were equipped with high-speed memory from Hynix with an operating frequency of 1250 MHz. As a result, these
memory chips had to work at a reduced frequency. The full potential of GDDR5 was realized in the next model of the series — the 6770 card.
Depending on the manufacturer and batch, the amount of adapter memory can be 512, 1024 and 2048 MB.
Benchmarks for Sapphire HD 6670 1Gb GDDR5
Testing of Sapphire HD 6670 will consist of running synthetic benchmarks and games, and comparing performance between video cards. The indicators will be summarized in charts.
- Sapphire HD6790
Power consumption. Cooling system
The thermal package for this accelerator was set to 44 W by the developers. On the one hand, such power consumption did not require additional power supply, and for this purpose, PCI Ex rev.16X contacts were used, which are capable of delivering up to 75 watts. On the other hand, such a minimum value of the thermal package made it possible to do without an active heat removal system in the nominal mode. If it was planned to overclock the adapter, then the presence of a cooler with a radiator was mandatory.
Overclocking: Sapphire HD 6670 890 MHz | 1180 MHz
Overclocking the Sapphire HD 6670 GDDR5 with 1Gb memory turned out to be very simple and routine, as always happens when overclocking a not very powerful video card. With each increase in frequency, several cycles of Crysis Warhead and 3DMark11 were run to check the stability of the work. As a result, a GPU frequency of 890 MHz was achieved, which amounted to an 11% increase. Overclocking ended with an increase in frequency by 18% and its value was 1180 MHz. During overclocking, the Sapphire TriXX utility was used.

At the same time, tessellation requires DirectX 11 and Windows Vista / 7 support from the video card, and Heaven Benchmark also supports DirectX 9, DirectX 10 and OpenGL. Visually, the test is presented as an image of beautiful floating islands, on which tiny villages with carefully traced architecture are located.
Settings:
- 4XAA
- 16XAF
- Shaders = Highly
- Tesseliation = Normally
- Measurements = FPS
This test showed that even SAPPHIRE HD 667 , but it is not able to produce at least an acceptable amount of FPS. It came closest to the Sapphire HD5830 Xtreme in the overclocked test at 2560×1600.
3DMark 11 benchmark
3DMark 11 is Futuremark’s next release in the 3DMark series after Vantage. 3DMark 11 is built exclusively for DirectX 11, so Windows Vista or 7 graphics card support is required to pass this test.
The new version of the benchmark is being tested with several new demos that also include audio streams. At the same time, three sets of presets were used for each of the cards.
Settings:
- Settings of the default tests
- Starting test: 1024 x 600
- performance test: 1280 x 720
- Extreme test: 1920 x 1080
in 3DMARK 11 tests, we see that HD 6670 is lagging behind the closest pursued card HD6790 more than half in terms of productivity.
3DMark Vantage
Including all the latest gaming benchmarks, this benchmark is designed for Vista-based systems. In the test programs, there are four levels of presets specific to each of the resolutions. «Beginner» runs at 1024 x 768 and «Extreme» at 1920 x 1200. These presets were used for our testing.
Settings :
- Settings: by default for each of the presets
- initial: 1024 x 768
- Productive: 1280 x 1024
- High: 1680 x 1050
- Extreme: 1920 x 1200
Sapphire HD 6670 could not get close to at least one of the test participants.
Temperature test
The temperature test was performed to ensure 100% loading of the video card using MSI Kombuster, while MSI Afterburner was used to record the temperature. Also, to assess stability, the test was run at a resolution of 1920 x 1200 using 8xAA. To ensure reaching the maximum temperature thresholds, the test lasted 15 minutes. For a standard card, the speed control of the cooling fan remained under the control of the BIOS control system, and for an overclocked card, its power was set to 100%. The standby test lasted 20 minutes under the same cooling operating conditions.
Settings:
- Monitoring via MSI Afterburner
- GPU Stability Test — MSI Kombuster
- Load test duration — 15 min.
- Standby test duration — 20 min. In load tests, this is one of the coldest cards.
Power Test
The power consumption of the systems will be measured in idle mode and in load mode with peak voltage applied. We use MSI Kombuster to boot the GPU for 15 minutes. The standby result is fixed after 15 minutes of system inactivity.
Settings:
- Test for GPU stability — MSI Kombuster
- Resolution 1920 x 1200
- 8XAA
- The duration of the test under load — 15 min
- Duration duration in waiting mode — 15 min
- measurements in Watt
In the idle test, the Sapphire HD 6670 is again in the middle, but in the overclocked device test, the card showed lower power consumption than rivals — the only card that requires less power is the HD6790.
How to overclock AMD Radeon
Let’s start with what you need to know first. Overclocking a video card (overclocking) can carry certain risks and consequences. You need to think about this in advance:
- after overclocking, the video adapter will begin to generate more heat.
- To improve the performance of the graphics adapter, you will need to set the voltage supply to it more.
- The power supply may not like this layout, which may also start to overheat.
- If you want to overclock your laptop’s video card, think twice, especially when it comes to an inexpensive model. Here two previous problems can arise at the same time.
Important! You will perform all actions to overclock the video adapter at your own peril and risk.
There is always a chance that it will eventually fail, but it is minimized if you take your time and do everything “by science”.
Ideally, overclocking is done by flashing the BIOS of the graphics adapter. It is better to trust specialists, and an ordinary PC user can use software tools.
To overclock your video card, download and install the following utilities right away:
Then follow our step-by-step instructions.
By the way, don’t be too lazy to check if your video adapter drivers are up to date before starting to overclock it.
Step 1: Temperature monitoring
Throughout the process of overclocking a video card, you will need to make sure that neither it nor other hardware heats up to a critical temperature (in this case, 90 degrees). If this happens, then you have gone too far with overclocking and you need to reduce the settings.
Use SpeedFan for monitoring. It displays a list of computer components with a temperature reading for each of them.
Step 2: Stress test and benchmarking
First you need to make sure that the graphics adapter does not get too hot at stock settings. To do this, you can run a powerful game for 30-40 minutes and see what temperature SpeedFan will give out. Or you can just use the FurMark tool, which will properly load the video card.
- To do this, simply click in the program window «GPU stress test».
A pop-up warning indicates a possible overheating. Click «GO».
A window will open with a nice donut animation. Your task is to follow the graph of temperature changes for 10-15 minutes. After this time, the graph should even out, and the temperature should not exceed 80 degrees.
- If the temperature is too high, it may not make sense to try to speed up the video adapter until you improve the cooling of the video card. This can be done by installing a more powerful cooler or by equipping the system unit with liquid cooling.
FurMark also allows you to benchmark your graphics card. As a result, you will receive a specific performance rating and will be able to compare it with the one that will be obtained after overclocking.
- Simply press one of the buttons on the «GPU benchmarking» block. They differ only in the resolution in which the graphics will be reproduced.
The bagel will run for 1 minute and you will see a video card rating report.
- Remember, write down or screen (take a screenshot) this indicator.
- In the main program window, click the settings icon.
- In the «Basic» tab about and «Unlock voltage monitoring». Click OK.
- «Core Clock» increases first. This is done by moving the corresponding slider to the right. For starters, a step of 50 MHz will suffice.
- Click the check mark button to apply the changes.
- Now run the FurMark stress test and observe its progress for 10-15 minutes.
- If there are no artifacts on the screen, and the temperature remains within the normal range, then you can again add 50-100 MHz and start testing. Do everything according to this principle until you see that the video card is too hot, and the graphics output becomes incorrect.
- When reaching the extreme value, reduce the frequency to achieve stable operation during the stress test.
- Now move the «Memory Clock» slider in the same way, adding no more than 100 MHz after each test. Don’t forget to click the checkmark every time you change it.
- For a visual check, run GPU-Z and see how specific performance metrics have changed.
- Alternatively, you can use the tool that is installed with the drivers for the AMD graphics card.
- Right-click on the desktop and select Graphics Properties.
- In the left menu, click «AMD Overdrive» and accept the warning.
- You can turn on the Overdrive function and drag the slider after auto-tuning.

Step 3: Check current specifications
GPU-Z will let you see exactly what you need to work with. First, pay attention to the «Pixel Fillrate», «Texture Fillrate» and «Bandwidth» values. You can hover over each of them and read what is what. In general, these three indicators largely determine the performance of the graphics adapter, and most importantly, they can be increased. True, for this you will have to change a few other characteristics.
Below there are «GPU Clock» and «Memory» values. These are the frequencies at which the GPU and memory operate. Here they can be pumped a little, thereby improving the above parameters.
Step 4: Changing the operating frequencies
MSI Afterburner is a good program for overclocking an AMD Radeon video card.
The principle of frequency adjustment is as follows: increase the frequency in small (!) Steps and test each time you make changes. If the video adapter continues to work stably, then you can still increase the settings and test again. This cycle must be repeated until the graphics adapter starts to work worse and overheat during the stress test. In this case, you need to start slowing down the frequencies so that there are no problems.
And now let’s look at everything in more detail:
Make sure the «Startup» function is not active — it is not needed yet.
Please note that the MSI Afterburner interface may differ from the examples shown. In the latest versions of the program, you can change the design in the «Interface» tab.
Step 5: Setting the profile
When you exit the program, all settings will be reset. In order not to enter them again next time, click on the save button and select any profile number.
So it will be enough for you to enter the program, click on this number and all parameters will be applied immediately. But we will go further.
An overclocked video card is mainly needed when playing games, and during normal PC use there is no point in driving it once again. Therefore, MSI Afterburner can be configured to apply your configuration only when launching games. To do this, go to settings and select the «Profiles» tab. In the drop-down line «3D profile» indicate the figure noted earlier. Click OK.
Note: you can enable «Startup» and the video card will overclock immediately after starting the computer.
Step 6: Check Results
You can now re-benchmark in FurMark and compare the results. Typically, the percentage increase in performance is directly proportional to the percentage increase in fundamental frequencies.
True, the possibilities of such overclocking are still limited by the maximum limit that auto-tuning will assign.
If you take your time and carefully monitor the status of your computer, you can overclock your AMD Radeon graphics card so that it will perform as well as some modern options.Thank the author, share the article on social networks.
Reviews of AMD’s Sapphire Radeon HD 6670 GDDR5 graphics card: pros and cons
keep this card in mind. Good tip — Sapphire HD 6670 guarantees you DirectX 11 support and the ability to connect multiple monitors using AMD Eyefinity technology, but will not be able to provide a comfortable game at the highest resolutions of the latest games, which is probably normal for video cards under $100. At the same time, any way to connect a monitor is at your service: HDMI cable, DVI or DisplayPort 1. 2 port.
The overclocking of the Sapphire HD 6670 was not the best, obviously the card was not designed for higher clock speeds. On the other hand, the card performed brilliantly in thermal and power consumption tests.
Pros :
If we compare the Radeon HD 6670 and Radeon HD 5670 by frequencies, the new product has added only 25 MHz in the core. And at the same time, the peak power consumption of the Radeon HD 6670 is only 60 watts, which is one watt lower than its predecessor. In 2D mode Turks is 3W more economical (11W vs 14W).

One pageDespite the appearance on sale of new lines of video cards from AMD and NVIDIA, the assortment of video cards in the low-end segment has not changed yet. And there is a simple explanation for this — these video cards still have a minimum acceptable gaming performance, while still offering the user such pleasant bonuses as low power consumption and, as a result, no noise and unpretentiousness to the power supply. In addition, some of these video cards are equipped with faster GDDR5 memory, which guarantees a more or less comfortable game in heavy graphics modes or in Full HD resolution. Today we will just get acquainted with one of the representatives of this segment — video card Sapphire Radeon HD 6670 with GDDR5 memory.
Despite all the advantages of using GDDR5 memory, there is still one drawback. And this is especially noticeable in today’s realities. This is the high cost of GDDR5 memory, which significantly increases the cost of the card in production. As a result, today there is such a situation that the price difference between the Radeon HD 6670 GDDR5 and representatives of faster video cards based on the Radeon HD 6750 or GeForce GTS 450 is only 10-15 dollars, with a clearly larger performance gap. But if a course is taken to save money, then you need to know what to prepare for.
So, today we will look at the design features of the video card on the Radeon HD 6670 by Sapphire, and also analyze its performance in comparison with the rapidly depreciating representatives of yesterday’s middle-end on the Radeon HD 6750 and GeForce GTS 450.
Before proceeding to testing the video card, I would like to get acquainted with its characteristics. For convenience, they are all collected in a single table.

Let’s start our examination of the Sapphire Radeon HD 6670 video card by examining the packaging.
The front side of the box is decorated with a picture familiar to Sapphire products, and also tells us about the main advantage of this card, namely the use of 1 GB GDDR5 memory.
The back side briefly describes the main features of the video card, provides a list of the package, as well as many awards, which indicate the high quality of the company’s products.
On the side, we have a list of basic requirements for a computer in which this video card will be installed, and a list of available video outputs.
The delivery package is standard for video cards of this price range and includes a booklet with a description and installation instructions, a DVD with drivers and a DVI-to-D-Sub adapter for connecting a monitor with an analog input.
Now let’s move on to studying the video card itself. It immediately catches your eye that the Sapphire Radeon HD 6670 graphics accelerator is equipped with a quiet and efficient cooler manufactured by Arcting Cooling.
To connect a monitor, it is proposed to use the most common DVI video output, as well as more modern HDMI and DisplayPort. In addition, as noted above, hardware support for the D-Sub interface is implemented using the supplied adapter.
Having removed the cooler, we can start examining the board itself. The placement of elements allows us to judge that the Sapphire Radeon HD 6670 video card is based on a «reference» design developed for video cards of this type by AMD engineers.
The power supply system is implemented according to the already familiar scheme — 2 power phases for the chip and 1 phase for the memory. All memory chips, with a total capacity of 1 GB, are located on the upper side of the textolite, the wiring corresponds to the width of the 128-bit memory bus.
Hynix memory chips, marked H5GQ2h34MFR-T2C and rated at 5000 MHz. However, on the video card under study, they operate at a frequency of only 4000 MHz, which allows us to hope that they can be accelerated during overclocking.
The reverse side of the graphics card is also littered with many elements. The PWM power controller is located here, as well as some components of the power circuits of the video card.
The cooler itself is a «bar» of aluminum with many fins and special air holes for memory chips. The contact of the cooler is provided only with the GPU, and the memory chips are blown by passing air. The multi-bladed fan is designed to increase the pressure of the blown air, thereby improving the efficiency of the cooler at low rotational speeds. Based on this design of the cooler, we can count on a fairly quiet operation of the video card.
Before proceeding to the study of the temperature regime of the video card, let’s go back to the characteristics of the video card, now in the form of a screenshot of the GPU-Z program.
As you can see, the characteristics of the Sapphire Radeon HD 6670 completely match those recommended by AMD for these video cards. MSI Afterburner was used as a program for monitoring core temperature and cooler speed. When the system was running in no 3D load mode, the fan speed was only 39% of the maximum and at the same time the cooler was not audible at all.
In the same video card idle mode, the chip and memory frequencies are reset to 150 MHz and 300 MHz (1200 MHz effective), respectively, to reduce power consumption and heat dissipation, as we can see in the next screenshot.
Load testing done with Furmark software. In automatic cooler control mode, the temperature rose to 61 degrees Celsius, and the fan speed increased to 50%.
By increasing the cooler speed to the maximum, we managed to win 7 °C, while the final temperature was 54 degrees. It should be noted that even at the maximum speed of the cooler fan, the video card remained quite quiet, not standing out against the background of the general noise of the computer.
