The newer and shinier Windows’ UI gets, the harder it is to access its most advanced (and often important) settings. Windows 11, like Windows 10 before it, tries to guide you into the new, modern looking Settings menu while burying but not eliminating the old-fashioned Control Panel, which still houses a lot of important options.

Even if you launch the Control Panel, you may have trouble finding the particular setting you’re looking for. For example, to change your environment variables (which affect what apps you can launch from any directory via the command line), you need to go to Settings->System->About->Advanced System Settings or Control Panel->System->Advanced System Settings and then click on the Environment Variables button.

The good news is that you can see a complete list of direct shortcuts by turning on «God Mode,» or, more accurately, creating a God Mode folder. Sadly, this «God Mode» is not as powerful as the ones you find in video games where you can walk through walls, be invincible or get every weapon. But God Mode in Windows 11 or Windows 10 can get you to your printer or Bluetooth settings in a single click. Here’s how.

1. Right click on the desktop and select New->Folder.

2. Name the folder as follows:

GodMode.{ED7BA470-8E54-465E-825C-99712043E01C}

(Image credit: Tom’s Hardware)

The name will disappear once you are finished.

3. Open the folder. You’ll notice a more than 200 settings menus to choose from, organized into categories such as Security and Maintenance and Power Options.

4. Drag and drop individual shortcuts to the desktop if you want even quicker access. For example, if you want one-click access to the «Manage audio devices» menu, drag it onto the desktop and and you’ll have a dedicated shortcut there.

Note that the folder icon for the God Mode folder may change its icon at some point, perhaps after you reboot. We found that it looks like it does in the screen shot below.

Whatever it looks like, the God Mode folder is a real time-saver.

There are all sorts of tricks for making Windows better , but one of the most advanced secrets in Windows 10 and 11 is a hidden feature that some call «God Mode.» God Mode has a long history: Since the launch of Windows Vista in 2007, you’ve been able to make a custom folder that shoves the entirety of the Windows Control Panel into a list. You can’t clip through walls or become invincible with it, but you can skip the modern, sometimes annoying Windows interface and get right to the options you want.

The «God Mode» nickname seems to have been largely popularized by bloggers around 2010, probably because it’s way catchier than the real name: Windows Master Control Panel shortcut. That doesn’t really feel powerful or elusive, does it? So God Mode it is.

This trick works in both Windows 10 and Windows 11 (and if you’re still rocking Windows 7 or 8, yep, it’ll work for you too). Here’s how to use it.

Here’s what Windows God Mode looks like

(Image credit: Future)

The God Mode folder is pretty simple in functionality because its real purpose is to be a database for names to pull up when you type them into the Start Menu’s search bar. It takes all of the Control Panel settings, like system restore, date and time, mouse settings, printer settings, and more, and folds them into an easily accessible list that you can also search through.

It’s useful if you find yourself accessing Control Panel settings frequently. Maybe you want to access your Bluetooth and mouse settings a lot without having to fuss with all the clicks it requires you to get to them in the normal Control Panel.

To enable «God Mode» all you have to do is right-click a blank area on your desktop, highlight New > Folder. Rename your new folder:

GodMode.{ED7BA470-8E54-465E-825C-99712043E01C}

Press enter to confirm the name.

That’s it: The folder icon will change to the Control Panel icon and when you open it, you’ll have access to a big list of options.

If you want to clean up that list of options, right-click any of the categories  in the folder and select «collapse all groups. » That should make the more than 200 settings much more manageable.

If all of this sounds too powerful for you to handle, you can always delete the file. Despite its name, «God Mode» doesn’t imbue Windows with any dangerous or mighty powers. It simply organizes a whole bundle of settings into one convenient place.

What is God Mode in Windows and how to enable it

Surely many Windows users have heard such a tempting expression — God Mode. And also, for sure, most do not know what it is, how it works and what it is used for. Let’s see what it is and whether you can really become God for your computer.

How to activate GodMode in Windows.

God Mode — what is it?

GodMode (its English name) in Windows is an extremely convenient system for managing a PC and its settings from one shared folder. Absolutely everything that can be done on your PC is done from this directory. By turning on this system, you will no longer look for the necessary settings and elements in an incomprehensible place. It turns on, by the way, in just a couple of minutes, it is available even to those who open the PC settings for the first time. In fact, this is a control panel with advanced features. Here are just a few of these features:

  1. Desktop personalization without limits.
  2. Driver update.
  3. Adjustment of system sounds.
  4. Setting shortcuts in the taskbar.
  5. Create a restore point.
  6. Change mouse and keyboard settings.
  7. Disable or enable OS components.
  8. Protecting your computer by encrypting data.
  9. Quick installation and removal of programs.
  10. Adjusting the amount of virtual memory. nine0012
  11. Rename PC.

Now let’s learn how to enable this mode for different versions of Windows.

How to enable God mode in Windows 7

Enable God mode on windows 7:

  • Create an empty folder anywhere, on any disk. The location is not important, but it is more logical to place it on the C drive.
  • Give the folder the following name: GodMode.{ED7BA470-8E54-465E-825C-99712043E01C}. By the way, instead of GodMode, you can write anything: from God_Mode to I_star. nine0012
  • The folder changes its appearance and is displayed as a control panel icon. Actually, this is the control panel, only in this form and with extended functionality, as we wanted.
  • We double-click on it and see a window with all the controls and administration of the OS. There will be 280 such elements.

How to enable God Mode in Windows 8

Making GodMode in 8 is as easy as in 7. All actions are similar: create a folder, rename it in the same way. The alphanumeric code for the folder name is the same as the one above. The only difference is that there will be 250 settings. nine0003

How to enable God Mode in Windows 10

For Windows 10, there are 2 ways to start this mode. Choose any to your liking, they work equally effectively.

1 way

Absolutely the same as for earlier versions of the OS: an empty folder with the same name and result. There are 230 settings available. If you made similar settings in previous versions, select it. But sometimes (fortunately — rarely) it happens that this method does not work. Then move on to the next one, it works 100% of the time. nine0078 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\CLSID\{D15ED2E1-C75B-443c-BD7C-FC03B2F08C17}\DefaultIcon]
@=»%SystemRoot%\\System32\\imageres.dll,-27″
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes \CLSID\{D15ED2E1-C75B-443c-BD7C-FC03B2F08C17}\Shell\Open\Command]
@=»explorer.exe shell:::{ED7BA470-8E54-465E-825C-99712043E01C}»
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\ControlPanel\NameSpace\{D15ED2E1-C75B-443c-BD7C-FC03B2F08C17}]
@=»God Mode»

Save the file using «save as». In the «File type» we put «All files», in the line «Encoding» — «Unicode». We set any name and extension .reg.

Double-click to send the file to the Windows registry and confirm it. Ready!

Turning on God Mode in Windows XP

Actually, this handy feature is missing in Windows XP. But those who want to get their hands on it need not despair: although it is not included in the system, there are utilities to imitate it. The most famous utility is XP Tweaker. It can be downloaded from the official website and used for your pleasure. nine0003

When you install it and open it, a working window with tabs in the side menu will be displayed. They contain options that are not available in the control panel, which allows the user to rebuild the system at his discretion. However, we advise you to be careful! If you do not know well enough what an option is for, do not enable or disable it — this can damage the system as a whole. Please read the user manual before using the utility.

How to use GodMode and what it contains

  • Let’s open the GodMode folder and examine its contents. It contains all the functions of the OS: autorun, administration, lists of all devices, etc.
  • You can save it anywhere, including the desktop, but the most rational way is on drive C. After all, this is a folder for managing the system. But the label is convenient to keep at hand, so as not to waste time on the way to it. But be careful: if you put it on the desktop of a computer that an insecure user is working on, he may accidentally change some settings. This is dangerous for the system! nine0012
  • In addition to the GodMode shortcut itself, you can create shortcuts for each item you want to access close. How to do it? Just right-click on the desired item and select «Create Shortcut».
  • Very useful and convenient to use the search function. The box where you need to drive in the name of what you are looking for is located at the top right.

Now you know how to activate god mode in Windows 7, 8 and 10, how to use it and what Windows XP owners should do. We wish you good luck managing your computer and look forward to your comments! nine0003

God Mode in Windows — what is it and how to enable it in Windows 10? | Info-Comp.ru

Welcome to the Info-Comp.ru website! Today we will talk about what God Mode is in Windows, what it is for and how it works, as well as how to enable God Mode in Windows 10, while I will show two ways to enable it.

What is «God Mode» in Windows

«God Mode» in Windows is a special folder that contains shortcuts to launch various tools for managing, configuring and administering the operating system.

In other words, in one folder there is all the functionality with which you can configure and manage the Windows operating system.

This feature greatly simplifies and speeds up the work associated with administering Windows, since in this case there is no need to open «Settings» or «Control Panel» Windows and look for the necessary functionality there, i.e. open one window, then another, and so on.

Due to the fact that the system can be controlled from one place, from a single point, this feature was called — «God Mode» .

The essence of this mode is that all control panel elements that are part of Windows, including the control panel itself, are assigned a canonical name and a unique GUID that can be used to launch this element programmatically. In this way, we have direct access to all Windows customization functions. nine0003

And due to the fact that Windows has a system for identifying all standard folders, we can use the GUID to create a folder to launch any item in the control panel.

And if you create a folder with the GUID of the control panel itself, then when you open this folder, all control panel items will be stored in it, which is «God Mode» .

You can see the GUIDs of available control panel items in the official documentation — https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/win32/shell/controlpanel-canonical-names

How to enable God Mode on Windows 10

To enable God Mode on Windows 10, you need to create a folder ( anywhere ) whose name will end with the following GUID

   Name.{ED7BA470-8E54-465E-825C-99712043E01C}

Where, as you understand, “Name” is any name, and everything after the dot is a GUID.

After creation, the label of this folder will immediately change, and if you open it, you will see all the available functionality. nine0003

Note! How to find out what is taking up disk space in Windows 10

Adding «God Mode» to the Windows 10 Control Panel

In addition to this method of enabling God Mode in Windows 10, you can also add a shortcut to launch this mode in the panel itself management.

This is done by editing the registry. To do this, create a reg file ( text file with extension . reg ) and paste the following code into it, which creates the necessary branches in the Windows registry. For example, I called this script AddGodMode.reg

   Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
   [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\CLSID\{D15ED2E1-C75B-443c-BD7C-FC03B2F08C17}]
   @="God Mode"
   "InfoTip"="All elements"
   "System.ControlPanel.Category"="5"
   [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\CLSID\{D15ED2E1-C75B-443c-BD7C-FC03B2F08C17}\DefaultIcon]
   @="%SystemRoot%\\System32\\imageres.dll,-27"
   [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\CLSID\{D15ED2E1-C75B-443c-BD7C-FC03B2F08C17}\Shell\Open\Command]
   @="explorer.exe shell:::{ED7BA470-8E54-465E-825C-99712043E01C}"
   [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\ControlPanel\NameSpace\{D15ED2E1-C75B-443c-BD7C-FC03B2F08C17}]
   @="God Mode"

Then save this file and run it (it must be run as administrator ).

Confirm changes to the Windows registry, click Yes.

This will merge this file with the registry.

And after that, in the Windows control panel, a label will appear «God Mode» .

Note! How to record a GIF from a computer screen.

If you suddenly want to remove «God Mode» from the control panel, then create a reg file with the following content. In this case, the previously created registry branches are deleted.

   Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\CLSID\{D15ED2E1-C75B-443c-BD7C-FC03B2F08C17}]
@="God Mode"

"System.ControlPanel.Category"="5"
[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\CLSID\{D15ED2E1-C75B-443c-BD7C-FC03B2F08C17}\DefaultIcon]
@="%SystemRoot%\\System32\\imageres.dll,-27"
[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\CLSID\{D15ED2E1-C75B-443c-BD7C-FC03B2F08C17}\Shell\Open\Command]
