AMD Bristol Ridge APUs are currently only available for purchase in complete systems using the AM4 platform. This does not stop some enthusiasts, and thanks to them, we already, in particular, have an idea about the performance and overclocking potential of the APU A12-9800. In addition to this model, the aforementioned family includes five quad-core and a pair of dual-core processors. One of them — A10-9700 — was recently tested by Heise.de resource specialists.

The platform for testing the new APU was the branded HP Pavilion 510-p150ng computer, equipped with a modest Willow Rev. A 15130-1″, one 8-gigabyte DDR4-2133 memory module (for the purity of the experiment, a second RAM bar was added to the system), a 1 TB hard drive and a 180 W power supply. Chip A10-9The 700 ran at 3.5 GHz (nominal) to 3.8 GHz (turbo). Recall that it includes four x86-64 Excavator cores, 2 × 1 MB of L2 cache and 384 3rd generation GCN stream processors with a frequency of up to 1029 MHz. Measurement of the total power consumption of the PC under load showed a rather modest figure of 90 watts.

The opponent of AMD A10-9700 during testing was, in particular, the APU A10-7800, belonging to the Kaveri FM2 + family and operating at a frequency of 3.5 GHz to 3.9GHz. Unlike the newcomer, this model contains 512 GCN shader units of the 2nd generation with a frequency of 720 MHz.

The A10-9700, A10-7800 processors and the Athlon X4 845, Core i3-6300 and Pentium G4400 that joined them passed the SYSmark 2014 and Cinebench R15 benchmarks, loading x86-64 cores, and the 3DMark Fire Strike graphics subsystem test.

SYSmark is known for its «love» for Intel’s CPUs, so it’s not surprising that neither the A10 nor the Athlon could even come close to the humble Pentium G4400.
