AMD Radeon RX 5700 vs NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2060: Gaming Performance Compared at 1080p and 1440p
When AMD first launched the Radeon RX 5700 series “Navi” graphics cards, the RX 5700 went up against the NVIDIA RTX 2060 Super while the 5700 XT traded blows with the RTX 2070 Super. The situation has drastically changed since then. You can now snag an RX 5700 for as low as $308, a tad bit lower than even the RTX 2060 (non-Super). The prices of the RTX cards, on the other hand, have increased by a fair bit. The RTX 2060 KO now costs $20 more than the cheapest 5700 at $329. This means that AMD’s offerings are now a lot more competitive than their NVIDIA rivals, offering notably higher performance per dollar.
NVIDIA RTX 2060 | AMD Radeon RX 5700 | |

Going by the new prices, the Radeon RX 5700 now competes with the GeForce RTX 2060, whereas the RX 5700 XT and the RTX 2060 Super fight it out in the $400 segment. In this post, we’ll be comparing the former at 1080p and 1440p, and decide which graphics card offers better value in the sub-$350 market.

AMD Radeon RX 5700 vs NVIDIA RTX 2060: 1080p Gaming Benchmarks
Assassins’ Creed really loves NVIDIA GPUs. At 1080p, the RTX 2060 is a hefty 10 FPS faster than the RX 5700, a bit surprising considering that the latter was supposed to target the 2060 Super.
All the titles other than Assassins’ Creed see the RX 5700 take a solid lead over the RTX 2060, as expected. On average, the Navi GPU is 15-20% faster than the budget RTX card at 1080p, with AMD favored games extending that delta to as much as 30%.
As seen in the past, the in-built Metro Exodus benchmark puts the RTX GPU in a comfortable position at the beginning and end of the test. For the remainder of the benchmark, the RX 5700 is a decent 10-12% faster.

AMD Radeon RX 5700 vs NVIDIA RTX 2060: 1440p Gaming Benchmarks
At 1440p, although the pixel count increases and the frame rates fall, the deltas between the two GPUs remain unchanged. Just like at 1080p, the RX 5700 is ~15% faster on average, with AMD favored titles seeing that figure swell up to 30%.
The RX 5700 manages to stay above the 50 FPS mark for most of the Metro Exodus test, but towards the end, things get a little hairy. The RTX 2060 hovers between 40-50 FPS with a drop to the sub-30s in the concluding moments of the benchmark.
X-Axis: No. of Frames; Y-Axis: FPS
Conclusion: To Navi or to Not Navi?
This one wasn’t a surprise, and all-in-all was an expected result. The RX 5700 is an excellent value-for-money graphics card. At just over $300, it offers markedly better performance than the similarly priced RTX 2060, all the while eclipsing its much more expensive Super variant. You’re essentially getting a higher-tier card for the price of a mid-range product. Doesn’t get better than that.

Shading patterns
Shading units (or stream processors) are small processors in a graphics card that are responsible for processing various aspects of an image.
texture units (TMUs)
TMUs take texture units and map them to the geometric layout of the 3D scene. More TMUs generally means texture information is processed faster.
ROPs
ROPs are responsible for some of the final steps of the rendering process, such as writing the final pixel data to memory and for performing other tasks such as anti-aliasing to improve the appearance of graphics.
Memory
effective memory speed
Unknown. Help us offer a price. (AMD Radeon Vega 8)
