Xeon E5 2697 v2 — the most powerful 12 -core processor based on Ivy-Bridge-EP architecture. The model was originally intended for purely professional tasks (the processor was installed even in Mac Pro) and at the time of release it cost more than $1,700. Even now to build a system on 2697 v2 is justified only for resource-intensive tasks (rendering, working with audio, etc.), for normal home use, the processor is clearly redundant.

    There is also a cheaper 12-core processor with a lower frequency — Xeon e5 2695 v2, as well as a completely budget model — Xeon e5 2651 v2.

The processor is quite rare and performance on Chinese lga2011 boards is not guaranteed. At the moment, we know for sure only about the correct work on X79Z VB10, huanan x79 v2.49P and Jingsha X79 P3.

Unlike other processors of this series, stones with index E5 269X have square cuts in the corners. It does not affect the installation and performance in any way.

    Cooling

You will need a tower cooler with a minimum of 4 heatpipes to dissipate heat. If you plan to use the processor for a long time at high loads, it is better to give preference to models with 5-6 heat pipes. Airflow also plays an important role. Of the models available on aliexpress, the leader in terms of price / quality ratio is Snowman MT6.

Before buying a massive cooler, it is better to make sure that it will fit in the case. It is also worth considering that some models of motherboards have RAM slots close enough to the socket, which can also cause problems when installing large cooling systems.

      Performance and benchmarks

Thanks to the number of cores and a good base frequency, the processor outperforms all junior models of the series in parallel tasks… In terms of multi-core performance, the xeon e5 2697 v2 can easily compete with some modern solutions.
