In August 2001, the “Intel” was forced to hastily introduce a new computing platform in the face of the Socket 478. The first of them at the time is outdated and no longer met the requirements that were put forward to the performance of the computer. And the second is not widespread due to the fact that they could not compete on equal terms with competing «Socket A» from «AMD» in price due to the expensive memory — RIMM. That’s the wave of these events and emerged the hero of this review.

FAQ on how to choose the right processor for Socket M and Socket P ) must be the same socket as the one being replaced (the old one). If the TDP of the (new) processor is much higher than the (old) processor, then the laptop cooling system will not be able to cope with heat removal from the processor and the laptop will overheat and there is a high risk of damage from overheating;
  • The bus frequency (FSB) of the installed processor must be equal to or lower than the maximum supported bus frequency (FSB) of the laptop motherboard chipset. How to determine the maximum supported FSB of the chipset, read below.
  • Finding the maximum supported bus frequency (FSB) of the laptop motherboard chipset

    You need to download the AIDA64 program and look at the information about the motherboard chipset in it. You need to find out what maximum FSB frequency the chipset supports. The photo below shows this information, usually this information is contained in the North Bridge section of the chipset (North Bridge):

    As you can see in the photo, the processor buses supported by the motherboard chipset are FSB533, FSB800 and FSB1066. Therefore, we can install processors with both FSB533 and FSB800 and FSB1066 buses. However, it is worth considering one rule, the more — the better, as a rule. It is advisable to install a processor with the maximum FSB, in this case with FSB1066.
