2k 27 inch monitor for PC gaming?

With so many games and other 4k content now available, buying a 4k UHD monitor sounds like a lot of fun at first glance. However, is it really so?

When shopping for a monitor, as with any major purchase, there are many things to consider. Is your PC capable of delivering 4k without sacrificing the player’s reaction time? Are you ready to invest such a significant amount?

As an alternative to expensive 4K monitors, 2K or 1440P monitors have grown in popularity over the past five years. 2k resolution is considered the middle ground between 1080p and 4k for many reasons. In this article, we detail why a 27-inch 2k monitor is a great choice for a gamer.

The perfect ratio of size and resolution

In case you play sitting at a table very close to the screen, then a 27-inch monitor will be the best choice, which will not take up too much gaming space on the table.

However, 4K monitors of this size have too high a pixel density. Text on the screen will appear tiny, and any image will need to be artificially scaled, which will inevitably reduce image quality. It can also affect games, especially if you’re a fan of role-playing games (RPGs), or any other genre that emphasizes story, which means there’s a lot of text. It can also lead to eye fatigue.

With a 27-inch 2k display, you can enjoy games in amazing quality without feeling left out. 2k or QHD resolution is a very noticeable improvement in picture quality over 1080p. While Full HD delivers just over 2 million pixels per frame, with 2k the pixel density almost doubles to 3.6 million. The pixel-per-inch ratio of the 27-inch QHD monitor is 108, which is ideal.

So, 27” and QHD / 1440p / 2K are a perfect match, as the BenQ EX2780Q shows.

BenQ EX2780Q 144Hz HDRi Gaming Monitor

  • 27″ IPS Panel 2K QHD
  • HDR technology and FreeSync support
  • USB-C™ Connector

Less is faster

With a 27-inch 2k monitor, you can enjoy every detail without eye fatigue, and also get access to faster frame rates. Currently, there is a very limited choice of hardware that is capable of running 4K games in high detail and at over 60fps. At the same time, the existing options hit hard on the pocket. By switching to QHD, you won’t have to worry about buying new equipment. Mid-range graphics cards and processors will be able to run almost any game with decent detail settings and impressive refresh rates.

In contrast, if you’re using a 4k monitor, you’ll definitely have to pay more for 144Hz panels, but on QHD those numbers are much more achievable. The BenQ EX2780Q has a 144Hz panel, so you’re not limited to 60fps or even 120 frames per second. This is a definite plus for fans of competitive games.

The same goes for response time — the larger the screen, the slower the response, because it takes more time to update each pixel. While the difference between 32 and 27 inches may not seem like much, it can be a determining factor in game latency.

Among other things, you should pay attention to FreeSync support. With AMD FreeSync technology, your PC and monitor are always in sync, so you won’t be affected by tearing issues no matter what refresh rate you use.

Excellent picture quality

Taking the EX2780Q as an example, it’s clear that 27″ QHD monitors can deliver the same high picture quality as more expensive large displays.

You get HDRi — HDR, which automatically adjusts according to the image and room conditions; 10-bit panel and 95% coverage of the DCI-P3 color space. This way, you don’t compromise by choosing a smaller monitor, but on the contrary, you optimize and actually get more for less money.

Connectivity galore

Modern 27-inch monitors offer all the same connectivity options as expensive 4K monitors. For example, with the BenQ EX2780Q, you get two HDMI 2.0, DisplayPort 1.4, and USB-C. You will be able to connect your computer via DisplayPort and then your Xbox and PlayStation to the HDMI ports. Or maybe an Apple TV. The choice is yours, as all of these devices natively support QHD 2560 x 1440.

Conclusion

The 27″ QHD monitor is an excellent choice in many ways. In terms of resolution, the screen size is perfect for its resolution. In terms of cost, QHD monitors remain more affordable than 4K. Every game and console supports 2k, and you get higher frame rates as well. By choosing 27 inches 2k you are not missing anything!

TOP-5. The best video cards for gaming in 2K (QuadHD 1440p). The final ranking of 2022!

Video card

Author Anatoly Vorontsov Reading 8 min Views 1.8k. Posted by

Greetings! In this review, I will tell you about the top five graphics cards to play at Quad HD resolution in 2022. Which models give the most comfortable FPS at a given resolution, but are not very suitable for gaming at higher resolutions, if we are talking about the most demanding projects? The answer to this question remains to be known.

Contents

  1. AMD Radeon RX 6700 XT
  2. Recommended power supply: 650W
  3. Maximum resolution: 7680 x 4320
  4. Ray tracing support: yes
  5. I want to start my TOP with the AMD Radeon RX 6700 XT model. This video card is built on AMD RDNA 2 microarchitecture and 7nm process technology. She received 12 GB of GDDR6 video memory. The nominal frequency of the video chip is 2321 MHz, while in the «turbo» mode it can reach 2581 MHz. A minimum 650W PSU is recommended for this card. It is noteworthy that it supports ray tracing technology. The maximum supported resolution is 7680 x 4320 pixels. Up to four monitors can be connected to this graphics accelerator at the same time, as it is equipped with three DisplayPort video connectors and one HDMI. Of course, real tests in demanding games speak best of all about the efficiency of the video card. For example, in Shadow of the Tomb Raider at maximum graphics settings with ray tracing enabled at Quad HD resolution, the average frame rate per second is 59, which is a very acceptable result. In WatchDogs: Legion at the same maximum settings, but without the included rays, this figure is 62 frames per second. In Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, the average fps reaches 83, and in Cyberpunk 2077, without beams and DLSS technology turned on, you can get 51 fps at maximum graphics settings. All this to say that the AMD Radeon RX 6700 XT is perfect for playing really demanding titles in Quad HD resolution, providing comfortable gameplay and smooth visuals. And if your monitor supports FreeSync technology, it will be even more pleasant to play.

    NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 Ti

    • Microarchitecture: NVIDIA Ampere
    • Process: 8 nm
    • Video memory size and type: 8 GB, GDDR6
    • The nominal frequency of the video chip: 1410 MHz
    • Turbo frequency: 1670 MHz
    • Video connectors: DisplayPort x2, HDMI x2
    • Auxiliary power connectors: 8-pin
    • Recommended power supply: 600W
    • Maximum resolution: 7680 x 4320
    • Ray tracing support: yes

I thought for a long time whether to include the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 Ti or 3070 model in my rating. As a result, I decided to stop at the first one, because these cards go almost toe-to-toe in terms of power, and the difference in their cost is still more noticeable in benefit just the same 3060 Ti. This video card is made on NVIDIA Ampere microarchitecture and 8nm process technology. She received 8 GB of GDDR6 video memory. There is also an option with a newer GDDR6X video memory, but I will not consider it now. The nominal frequency of the video chip is 1410 MHz, while in the «turbo» mode it reaches 1670 MHz. In total, you can connect up to four monitors at the same time through two Display Port connectors and two HDMI. The recommended power supply is 600W minimum. And the maximum supported resolution reaches 7680 x 4320 pixels, although it is unlikely that in the foreseeable future it will be possible to play new projects at this resolution with great comfort. Of course, I cannot fail to mention the support for ray tracing technology, which works much better in the 30th series of NVIDIA video cards. I was able to test this card in conjunction with an Intel Core i5-12400F processor. Godof War averages 58 frames per second without DLSS without major dropouts. In ForzaHorizon 5 at maximum settings, the average fps is between 96 to 100. In EldenRing, this is a stable 60 frames per second, and in the rather demanding Cyberpunk 2077, this figure is within 52 frames per second, which is quite good.

    AMD Radeon RX 6750 XT

    • Microarchitecture: AMD RDNA 2
    • Process: 7 nm
    • Video memory size and type: 12 GB, GDDR6
    • The nominal frequency of the video chip: 2150 MHz
    • Turbo frequency: 2600 MHz
    • Video connectors: DisplayPort x3, HDMI
    • Auxiliary power connectors: 8-pin + 6-pin
    • Recommended power supply: 650W
    • Maximum resolution: 7680 x 4320
    • Ray tracing support: yes

Next in my TOP is the AMD Radeon RX 6750 XT model. This video card is made on AMD RDNA 2 microarchitecture and 7nm process technology. She received 12 GB of GDDR6 video memory. The nominal frequency of the video chip is 2150 MHz, while in the «turbo» mode it can reach 2600 MHz. Up to four monitors can be connected to this card using three DisplayPort and one HDMI video connectors. The power of the recommended power supply is 650 W, and the maximum resolution reaches 7680 x 4320 pixels. It also supports ray tracing technology. The average fps in Cyberpunk 2077 at maximum graphics settings without beams and DLSS enabled at Quad HD resolution is 55. In RedDead Redemption 2 at the same graphics settings without DLSS, the average fps reaches 76, which is more than comfortable indicator. In Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, players will be able to enjoy a smooth picture at maximum speeds, since the average number of frames per second here is as much as 89. In general, this video card is perfect for really demanding projects at maximum graphics settings in Quad HD resolution. Less demanding titles can be played even in Ultra HD resolution. For example, in ForzaHorizon 5, where at this resolution at maximum speeds you can get a stable 60 frames per second. Therefore, you should definitely pay attention to this card if you want to get the most comfortable gameplay possible in serious projects in Quad HD resolution.

    NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 Ti

    • Microarchitecture: NVIDIA Ampere
    • Process: 8 nm
    • Video memory size and type: 8 GB, GDDR6X
    • The nominal frequency of the video chip: 1580 MHz
    • Turbo frequency: 1770 MHz
    • Video connectors: DisplayPort x3, HDMI
    • Auxiliary power connectors: 8-pin x2
    • Recommended power supply: 750W
    • Maximum resolution: 7680 x 4320
    • Ray tracing support: yes

The penultimate video card I want to tell you about is the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 Ti. This is one of the best options for gaming in Quad HD resolution. This can be easily understood from the tests in all the most demanding modern projects. This model is built on NVIDIA Ampere microarchitecture and 8nm process technology. She received 8 GB of GDDR6X video memory. The nominal frequency of the video chip is 1580 MHz, while in the «turbo» mode it reaches 1770 MHz. It is possible to connect up to four monitors simultaneously via three DisplayPort video connectors and one HDMI. The power of the recommended unit is at least 750 watts. As for the maximum resolution, it reaches 7680 x 4320 pixels. Of course, ray tracing is also available. In the game Cyberpunk 2077 at maximum graphics settings without rays and DLSS, you can get an average of 63 frames per second, which is an extremely comfortable indicator. In RedDead Redemption 2, this figure reaches 70 at the same settings without DLSS. As for Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, in this game, on average, at maximum speeds, you can get 75 frames per second. Moreover, this card provides comfortable gameplay in many modern titles even in Ultra HD resolution. This applies, for example, to ForzaHorizon 5, where the average number of frames per second is 66, as well as FarCry 6, where the gamer will get a pleasant 61 frames per second at maximum graphics settings. Definitely one of the best options for Quad HD resolution in 2022.

    AMD Radeon RX 6800

    • Microarchitecture: AMD RDNA 2
    • Process: 7 nm
    • Video memory size and type: 16 GB, GDDR6
    • The nominal frequency of the video chip: 1825 MHz
    • Turbo frequency: 2105 MHz
    • Video connectors: DisplayPort x2, HDMI x2
    • Auxiliary power connectors: 8-pin x2
    • Recommended power supply: 650W
    • Maximum resolution: 7680 x 4320
    • Ray tracing support: yes

A rounds out my top 5 best graphics cards for Quad HD gaming in 2022 with the AMD Radeon RX 6800. Like the previous member of my rating, this card is also great for some demanding games at maximum graphics settings in Ultra HD resolution, but, first of all, it is focused specifically on Quad HD, and in this regard it is considered one of the best, if not the best. This model is built on AMD RDNA 2 microarchitecture and 7nm process technology.
