I had inserted the correct DVD-R cd in the dvd burner. I wasted 1 cd just because of this error, I can’t use it anymore…..I have this dvd burner » LG GSA-4167B 16X DVD+-RW 16X Dual Layer Writer IDE 2MB Black OEM With Software». Is it my dvd-burner or something else…I have windows XP 1800+ cpu with 1GB memory, and saphire 9550 128mb video card….etc…..

why does nero burn my 16x disks on my 16x dvd burner at 4x?

Even though I select maximum speed on nero, it will only burn at 4x. .. I have 16x disks and a 16x dvd recorder. I’ve been burning at 16x with dvd shrink, so I’m asuming it cant be hardware/driver related since dvd shrink uses the nero engine.
Another question, there is an option for «high quality mode» which at current I have disabled, but I was wondering if this really makes a difference to my video/audio quality…

There could be several reasons. first what version of Nero are you using? also when you select «maximum speed» you are not telling Nero to burn the disc at 16X you are telling Nero to decide what the best speed is to burn that disk. it could be that nero thinks that 4x is the best speed. have you tried selecting 16X instead of using «maximum speed»?

Nero is selecting the speed that its detection system shows to be the most reliable. It could be the disc media, or the read, or other problem… but i wouldn’t argue with it.

have yuo tested the media you have burned at 16X with shrink/nero to see what kind of burn quality it has?

Nero’s Pretty Smart. ….
There are 18x burners as well…. Trouble is, you can’t buy media. What’s your hurry?
What is write power calibration error. Power Calibration Error
There are a lot of legends about the premise that causes the message: «power calibration error». Most of these misconceptions push the average user to rather cardinal ways to solve the problem, such as buying a new drive, reinstalling Windows, etc. Therefore, it will be very useful to reveal the veracity of certain statements.
Many people think that the power calibration error, Nero, is the culprit. In such cases, it is suggested to remove the program and use another one. It really can help, but very rarely. It must be emphasized that the reason for the appearance of this message is not the work of the program. Usually, in such cases, the disc or drive contributes to a warning due to contamination or incompatibility.
The development of a similar situation will be the occurrence of a message in Nero: «power calibration error». The program, accordingly, remembers this and gives the user a warning label even when the problem has already been eliminated. It is worth repeating that the possibility of such a development of events is very small, and installing other applications for burning discs can only help in a limited number of cases. In most situations, software from third-party developers will simply give a burning error.
In fact, the true cause of a «power calibration error» message is almost always bad disks or drive incompatibility. Here, a search for a unique drive firmware or the use of blanks from other manufacturers can come to the rescue. In the vast majority of cases, tasks appear only with DVD-R discs on the computer itself.
The same media, as a rule, will be recorded on other drives, so do not rush to throw them away. If the user received a warning «power calibration error» during the recording process, then under no circumstances should you boil. The disk can be pulled out and burned without any failures and errors on another drive, despite the fact that the disc has been inside the computer for a long time, where they tried to burn it.
Another way to deal with this problem can be to reduce the disk write speed. The fact is that when the drive is used, the laser power is miniaturized, and high-quality recording can be made only at a speed of 2.4x and 4x. From time to time, replacing the power supply helps. The new unit must certainly have enormous power.
If a message such as «power calibration error» occurs, you should refrain from steps such as reinstalling the operating system. In any case, it will only be a waste of time, because it will not have any effect on eliminating the task.
If the drive is old and all the actions described above did not help, then only then, of course, you will have to purchase a new one. In such cases, it is useful to install a freshly purchased drive without throwing away the old one. The introduction of a new drive only for recording discs will significantly extend its service life, and reading discs can be created on an ancient one.
Contrary to the established opinion about the unreliability of drives in laptops, it is worth noting that they serve without problems for quite a long time. Since USB-Flash drives are used as the main carrier, the drive is used quite rarely, and is changed only in the most extreme cases.
Like any “consumable”, the drive has rather meager repair options, so most of the advice on the forums or in workshops is quite trivial — replacing the drive! One of the most common problems is Laser Calibration Error
. It «pops up» at the moment when you try to write data to disk. The tips described below, if they do not help restore normal operation to the drive, then at least slightly extend its life or make it possible to burn a disc. For example, we will take drive Matshita DVD-RAM
. Specifically, my model is UJ8C0
. As it turns out, Matshita quite often «catches» such a glitch.
A real hardware problem with the CD/DVD drive cannot be ruled out. A defect with laser calibration can occur due to insufficient laser energy for burning — over time, the emission in the laser weakens, i.e. Roughly speaking, there is not enough power for burning. And this is almost a 100% replacement for
1. Wipe the laser head with a cotton swab
One of the most effective ways that helped, among other things, the author of this material. Instead of complex software algorithms and painstaking hardware disassembly, you only need a cotton swab (a cotton pad, as an option). Open the drive — the laser head is clearly visible to the naked eye. Clean the head with a DRY cotton swab. It is not necessary to press hard, but the head itself is not crystal — do not be afraid to touch it.
After this «dry-cleaning», try to burn the disc in the standard WIndows disc burning program.
2. If possible, check actuator connector
On laptops, the process of removing a drive is no more difficult than on large full-fledged PCs, and sometimes even easier. On the back wall of the laptop of some models, the necessary bolt is even specially signed:
Unscrew it and remove the drive from the housing. Check its interface, try also cleaning it with a dry Q-tip.
3. Disable the service «
IMAPI CD-Burning COM Service»
Many images. Goes under the spoiler:
Show
To do this, go to «Control Panel»
. There we switch to «Small Icons»
if you haven’t already:
Select «Services»
and look in the list for «IMAPI CD Burning COM Service» ( IMAPI CD-Burning COM Service)
Right click on it and select properties. Looking for «Start type»,
select «Disabled»
and save
4. Use Nero (TAO mode)
With a similar problem, the Nero program sometimes helps, which allows you to change the recording method. Even the free, limited version will do. I downloaded mine on the oneprog.ru portal — programs for PC in a free and shareware version.
We are interested in track-at-once.
To burn a disc in this mode At startup Nero Burning Room
you will see the initial master
Go to the tab «Record» (Burn)
. Write Method
select Track-at-once
. After that, click New (New). After that, a window with a choice of files will open. Having dragged the necessary files for recording into the left window, press the button Burn (Burn)
5. Methods that will not help you in 99% of cases:
Decrease write speed
Disable virtual drives.
Using blanks from other manufacturers
Reinstalling Windows.
Sometimes solutions to problems are ridiculously simple and it turns out that you do not need to bother with settings and uninstalling / installing programs for hours.
Initial data: a long time ago I installed Windows 7 on my laptop, where Vista was originally installed, and since I didn’t really use disc burning (all through flash drives, you know), I didn’t pay attention to problems with discs. A couple of times I took out old RW-shki, tried to read them, but the drive let me down and could not open them. So I gave up on these symptoms, sinning in one case either on old crap disks, or on Windows, or on the weather and electromagnetic storms.
But the time has come to deal with the misfortune — we urgently need to burn discs. I installed Nero (thanks to the root tracker center for this) thinking that such a serious fly-in recording program would help to find peace of mind. No matter how, she repeated the behavior of her predecessors and gave an error:
Well, at least the wording has appeared! Now there is something to catch on and what to look for on the Internet.
On many forums, smart people have offered a bunch of different ideas on how to bring the burner (CD / DVD RW) back to life; among them were such (I quote, you see who will help):
- Reduce the write speed (8x-16x). It will not help — take other blanks (TDK for example)
- the simplest and most obvious solution is to change the drive.
- For starters, in the name of the triumph of science, the software would try to change
- If it doesn’t help, it’s the laser, replace the drive
- In my case (with an elderly «pioneer», in which everything pointed to a laser), it was the firmware change that helped, it normally writes to this day
- Disable Wirth. drive in Alcohol, «Kill» the process associated with Alcohol (in the task manager)
- rearrange Windows / Nero
- do not use discs of unknown Chinese manufacturers, and if you already ran into it, then just reduce the write speed to 2x (a proven method) and try to burn
again
- New Daemon Tools is to blame for everything with the Secur Mode option enabled, and it is enabled there by default, so turn it off immediately when installing
- if someone has Alcohol installed, then disable this option in the settings «Emulation / ignore media type (uncheck)»
- It helps in some cases to replace the power supply with a normal one (does not threaten laptops)
- the computer contains a virus — the file svchost.exe and image may be charged, reinstalling Windows, everything will help
In short, all this useful information was broken up by a single message (to the author of which I am very grateful):
Had the same problem «Power Calibration Error».
Only the following helped… I disassembled the drive and cleaned the lens (with an ordinary cotton swab)
…. Now everything is running great again…

We replaced the drive with a new one, both with an error on the external burner. From the beginning, I thought I had no problems. The burnt loads tried another one but with the same message. Since they burned both discs, try and burn the DL+ disc with IMGBURN. I cannot understand why I am responding to such a vague statement. Cannot burn a double layer dvd. I am getting an error that reads a power calibration error around the time the dvd burner starts burning the second layer. Any suggestions?? If you really need help, you will have to publish a few details of your system, hardware, software, media used, etc. M30-842: Power calibration error when writing DVD-RW Am I running into the roxio software built into Windows XP? Enable the same option. sperm Hello Semyon Can you try to calibrate. So I can’t erase my DVD-RW laptop and Nero would say «The burning process failed. |
Sometimes solutions to problems are ridiculously simple and it turns out that you do not need to bother with settings and uninstalling / installing programs for hours.
Initial data: a long time ago I was on my laptop, where Vista was originally installed, and since I didn’t really use disc burning (all through flash drives, you know), I didn’t pay attention to problems with discs.
I installed Nero (thanks to the center for this) thinking that such a serious in-flight recording program would help to find peace of mind.
- the computer contains a virus — the file svchost.
