Jane Nash — Graphics test 1
Watch super agent and go-to gal Jane Nash as she escapes from a secret island lair in this action-packed scene. The test includes complex character animation, physical GPU simulations, multiple dynamic lights, and complex surface lighting models. It uses several hierarchical rendering steps to create water reflection and refraction and includes physics simulation collision map rendering.

New Calico — Graphics test 2
Space explodes with action as the Damocles leads a devastating assault on the planet New Calico. This test consists almost entirely of moving objects — spaceships, fighters, missiles, and asteroids. In addition to variance shadow mapped shadows, the test includes a number of local and global ray-tracing effects such as parallax occlusion mapping, true impostors, and volumetric fog.

AI test — CPU test 1
The daredevil pilots of the Merry Go Round Air Show put on a dazzling display in this demanding CPU benchmark. This test features a high-intensity workload of cooperative path-finding artificial intelligence calculations as the planes attempt to navigate a series of gates while avoiding collisions. The workload is parallelized and will take advantage of multi-core CPUs if available.

Physics test — CPU test 2
The Merry Go Round Air Show continues in this heavy physics stress test for your CPU. This time, the smoke-trailing planes collide with various cloth and soft-body obstacles, each other, and the ground. The smoke spreads and reacts to the planes passing through it. As this test is designed to stress the CPU physics acceleration on the GPU is disabled by default.

Note: 3DMark Vantage is designed for Windows Vista and limited functionality. We recommend using the latest version of 3DMark on PCs with modern operating systems.

Futuremark Ends Support for 3DMark Vantage and PCMark Vantage

Bohs Hansen / 6 years ago

It is no secret that Microsoft is ending their support for the 10-year old operating system Windows Vista on April the 11th this year and other companies are taking that queue to end the support for their Vista-based apps too. One of them is Futuremark that today announced they are ending their support for 3DMark Vantage and PCMark Vantage.

Futuremark’s 3DMark Vantage and PCMark Vantage are designed to be Windows Vista benchmarks and their support is ending on the same day, April the 11th, 2017. Vista was never the most popular operating system and most people have moved on to different operating systems. In fact, according to StatCoutner, only 1.12 of Windows users are still using Vista.

The end of support means that the products no longer will be sold on the official web store. They will no longer receive updates other than SystemInfo and they will no longer be guaranteed to work with the Futuremark online services. And naturally, there won’t be any customer support for them either.

There are great alternatives tho and I think most people are familiar with. While 3D Mark Vantage was a performance test for DirectX 10, that API is two generations old by now. The new 3DMark Time Spy, Fire Strike, and Sky Diver are already here to replace it, using DirectX 11 and DirectX 12 to test your high-end systems and laptops.

The alternatives to PCMark Vantage are naturally PCMark 7, PCMark 8, and the soon-to-be-released PCMark 10. The difference between the apps is what Windows version they are designed to use: Windows 7, Windows 8/8.1, and Windows 10.

While the support ends, there great news for the bargain hunters out there. All FutureMark legacy benchmarks are available for free download with a key to unlock the Advanced Edition features. On April the 11th, 3DMark Vantage and PCMark Vantage will be added to that list and be available for free. You can find the entire legacy app list and download options here.

3DMark | this… What is 3DMark?

This term has other meanings, see 3D. 3DMark

Benchmarks of this series are focused on testing, first of all, the graphic components of a personal computer in order to determine the performance of the system in computer games. The main purpose of 3DMark is to test the performance and stability of a graphics card (video card) and evaluate its performance in conventional units. The latest versions of 3DMark, in addition to the graphics card, also test the performance of the CPU in tasks such as gaming artificial intelligence and the physics engine. 3DMark is, in essence, visually a computer game that is non-interactive, as the user cannot influence the gameplay. 3DMark benchmarks are proprietary commercial programs, however, all benchmarks in the series, with the exception of 3DMark Vantage, have cut down free versions with limited functionality.

3DMark is one of the most popular and used programs among overclocking enthusiasts and gamers who evaluate and compare the performance of their systems with 3DMark.

General description 3DMark

3DMark is positioned by developers as an objective, independent, neutral and reliable tool for testing the performance and stability of computer systems. Moreover, the developers are positioning 3DMark, especially its game tests, as the future of computer games. So, in all gaming tests there are graphic technologies that are at the stage of completion and implementation in computer games, and sometimes they are completely absent. Initially, the 3DMark series focused on the DirectX API and used only it.

In most 3DMark releases, all tests can be divided into two groups: gaming tests and synthetic specific tests. The former are non-interactive, almost full-fledged computer games that run in real time using a game engine. Unlike a full-fledged computer game, the user cannot influence the gameplay and control the protagonist or virtual camera, he can only observe. During the test, the number of frames and the average frame rate per second are measured. Another type of test loads and evaluates only specific specific units of the graphics processing unit (GPU), for example: shader units, texturing units, rasterization units, etc. Although these synthetic tests do not reflect the performance of the video card in games, however, they allow you to fairly accurately evaluate the performance of specific GPU blocks and, on this basis, give a more objective assessment of GPU performance.

3DMark is a PC benchmark software published by Futuremark that tests the graphics rendering performance of a computer. Like and in competition with Unigine.

3DMark is designed for graphics cards using DirectX technology.

3DMark intends to provide a standardized score for a machine to make it easier to compare the performance of each processor or graphics renderer. Its detractors insist that it seems illusory to be able to quantify a performance measure that remains virtual.

Supported

Versions that are no longer supported are still available here (with bonus activation keys for full versions).

The number in the version name corresponds to the base year for the benchmark in question. For the sake of constantly increasing graphics capabilities, each new version contains the latest improvements and implementations of the latest generation of graphics rendering technologies. So each year the scores for the same graphics card will decrease and a good old 3DMark score cannot take into account the real possibilities of the latest applications, in particular with the improvement of processors, DirectX or the emergence of new technologies such as Pixel Shader and this every year.

Overclocking

The program has been detracted from its use by overclocking enthusiasts a bit in order to have an extremely powerful basis for comparing their machines. This allows you to compare your pre-overclocked and post-overclocked results to see the performance gains.
