Today, overclocking a graphics accelerator of a video card is a task within the power of everyone and a safe way in comparison, for example, overclocking a processor. It is recommended to add the value gradually in steps of 100-50 MHz to the frequency of GPU and Memory. From what indicator to start overclocking does not really matter. Video cards without factory overclocking will in theory overclock better. Therefore, it is possible to increase values ​​above 150-250 MHz at the start of overclocking. We fix the set frequencies by pressing the button — ( Apply) , after which we check that the overestimated frequencies did not affect the performance of the computer and video adapter in any way. Typical signs of a malfunction are the computer turned off, the computer freezes, the screen flickers, changes color or does not respond to our movements, and the like. If everything is in order and none of the listed problems are observed, proceed to the next tests using the graphics card stress testing program.

Tests. Overclocking a video card using Fur Mark

Where do we start? We download the program. We start the overclocking test of the video card, for this we use the program Fur Mark , in the “window” mode we leave the GPU-Z utility open.

First of all, when starting the program, we should check how our video card passes the test. We carefully monitor the temperature of the video card and it is desirable to bring it to a temperature of 80 degrees. As a result of the tests, we fix stable operation for 15-20 minutes in the testing mode. If during testing we do not observe visible problems, you can still increase the GPU Clock values. Our task is to determine the upper frequency limit for the GPU core and memory, at which the video card works without failures.

When we work in the Fur Mark program, it should be borne in mind that stress tests should first be carried out separately by increasing the frequency of the Core Clock and Memory Clock. The final test is to launch a modern game. We check whether there will be failures within a few hours. As a result of testing, if the game does not crash for several hours, you can fix the overclocking of the video card and save the settings in Afterburner. It is possible to activate overclocking with a «hot key».

An important point if artifacts are observed during overclocking or the game just crashes / turns off. It is worth paying attention to this item — PerfCap Reason .
