Corsair h215i vs h200i: A Tale of Two Similar but Different Coolers

It’s very important, for any modern PC, to have an efficient and effective cooling solution. Whether you have the best CPU in the world or a budget processor, you need to keep those temperatures down, especially if you will be overclocking on several tasks.

When the CPU is running at idle, anyone can get away with a stock cooler, but when under heavy load, some CPUs will get hot quicker than you can imagine and will require the best coolers available to minimize potential harm.

To that end, if you fail to pair your CPU with an effective cooling solution, you run the risk of having your system throttled, which can be a huge waste of money. With the Corsair h215i and h200i, you can change that narrative.

Like we mentioned up there, Corsair is a powerful brand, and these coolers are some of the best for any CPU. The Hydro series of CPU coolers also rank very high among the AIO liquid coolers. However, our main concern here is how these two models in the same brand compare.

These two products are part of the Hydro series, featuring the h200i, h215i and h250i. Our review will point out the best for your PC build.

Pros

  • It comes with an excellent and beautiful design
  • It provides a reliable and cool performance
  • Easy to install
  • It offers customization

Cons

  • Gets noisy at higher speeds

The Corsair h200i RGB comes across as an all-in-one RGB liquid CPU cooler. Its 9.5 inches radiator is built for low noise cooling performance and bold styling, thanks to the RGB LED pump head.

It’s very much an exciting choice if you’re after the best 9.5 inches liquid CPU cooler. Besides, the cooler is supported by the Corsair monitoring tool, and it is designed for extreme performance par excellence.

The double-wide radiator does its bit to give the cooler a better performance level. Many reviewers have also praised the h200i ability to provide a functional and entirely self-contained performance.

– Design and Performance: Beautiful and Efficient

The design of the cooler is simple, but we like its beautiful look. It goes on to ensure rich functions from an AIO liquid cooler. In addition to that, the cooler has RGB LEDs that can be pretty exciting, but you can disable them if you are comfortable without them.

Corsair utilizes an all-aluminum radiator for this h200i Pro and pairs it with a duo of 4.7 inches ML Series PWM fans rated up to 2400 RPM.

For the heat exchanger fittings, you get immobile barns, and the rubber tubing comes sleeved in black nylon braid to the 90-degree swivel connectors right on the cooling block. Of course, the Corsair logo appears at the lateral edge on either side of the radiator and is a plated, adhesive fixture rather than a simple sticker.

The fans here are of the non-LED variety, while you have rubberized mounts hidden at the corners to help minimize noise from fan vibration.

– Fans: Offering Cooling Effects

The fans on this cooler are non-LED but measure about 4.7 inches with low pitch blades, so that you have access to better static pressure.

Also, the three-pin connector provides a smooth advantage and continues to the 75 Cubic Feet Per Minute airflow capacity. What’s more, you’ll enjoy minimal coolant evaporation, which will help you ensure a longer life for your fan.

– Overview

With this Corsair liquid cooling product, users that want to deal with heating problems finally have a solution. It’s easy to install with cable management, the only thing you have to figure out.

Pros

  • Excellent memory clearance
  • Simple to install
  • It gives a high-end cooling performance
  • Awesome software compatibility

Cons

  • Priced a bit higher than other options

The Corsair h215i RGB platinum comes designed with full coverage of RGB accents in a pair of 4. 7 inches LED fans. It also has bright backlighting for the CPU block faceplate. With a larger radiator, we’re guessing it should automatically result in a higher-performing liquid cooling system.

However, there’s so much focus on customized lighting options to detract from other features and specifications. For example, its radiator doesn’t keep up with some of the smaller 240 AIO’s out there.

What makes Corsair and this particular model stand out is that it appeals to many users. That’s because it offers support to all current AMD and Intel desktop CPU sockets, including the Threadripper platform. Moreover, the pump itself is technically PWM-capable, although there’s no adapter for a USB type-A on this product.

– Design and Performance: Provides High-End Cooling

At the base of this h215i cooler, you’ll find a rectangular patch of pre-applied thermal paste on the satin-finished copper cooling base. That’s already more than you get on its counterpart above. Again, you can see the mounting bracket seam from the side.

These brackets will slide into grooves at the base of the block and snap into position on both sides. Another thing Corsair does is make the installation smoother by including a pair of 90-degree swivel fittings, so tubing placement is a bit easier.

– Fans: Provide Definite Cooling

This cooler comes with a large 280 radiator cooling field that needs proper airflow to achieve thermal dissipation for the fans and cooling capabilities. To that end, Corsair ships a duo of ML140 Pro RGB LED fans to get the job done.

These fans use a four-pin connector for lighting control, but the plugs are more proprietary. That means they won’t interconnect well with the standard RGB 4-pin cables found on many motherboards and other coolers. The fans are controlled by motherboard fan headers or a standalone fan controller instead.

– Overview

Installing the Corsair h215i is straightforward, primarily if your PC chassis supports a 2 x 4.7 inches radiator. It comes with an RGB pigtail that provides lighting connectivity between the pump housing and fans while also providing PWM control using a two-way splitter. You’ll like its superior cooling capabilities.

h215i vs h200i: Head-to-Head Comparison

The main difference between h215i and h200i is, h200i has a fan speed of between 400 – 2400 RPM and features tremendous iCUE software functionality compared to h215i.

Now that we know enough about these two AIO liquid coolers from Corsair, we’ll compare some of the features to see which one is better than the other.

Software

Winner: Both

For this cooler comparison, we noticed that the Corsair ICUE software controls both coolers. It allows users to control the RGB lighting monitor CPU and coolant temperatures. You can also use it to adjust fan and pump speeds, all from a single intuitive interface. Both of these coolers use this software, so there’s no clear winner.

Fan

Winner: h200i

The best fans are known to give off near-perfect cooling experiences for your system. Both of these devices use the famous RGB ML Series fan types. Even though the h215i uses a higher version – RGB ML Series 140, it’s not as fast as the RGB ML Series 120.

The latter boasts a fan speed of between 400 – 2400 RPM (PWM), while the h215i gives users 400 – 2000 RPM (PWM).

Noise Levels

Winner: Both

Your CPU/GPU can get pretty hot without a fan keeping it cool. However, noises from fans are part of the process. These two coolers have a noise level measured at 37 dBA, so they expect the noise level to increase while rotating very fast. At least, you’ll have a device that helps you overclock on intensive tasks like gaming.

Buying Tips for CPU Coolers

If you’re looking to get the best coolers for your system, there are some tips you can follow, including:

  • Check Clearances:

This is very important if you’re going to choose a large air cooler. That’s because big coolers and low-profile models can bump up against tall RAMs and, even sometimes, against VRM heatsinks.

Also, tall coolers often cause problems with clearance issues for your case door or window. What you can do is always check the dimensions and advertised clearances of any cooler you’re considering buying.

With more fans, you get better cooling. That’s true, but you also get more noise to tolerate. Also, coolers that do a fabulous job of keeping heat away from your CPU are often the loudest.

So if the fan noise is not an issue for you, get the most effective one to keep your system cool. To balance the noise and performance of your cooler, you can try setting your cooler’s fan speeds based on temperatures in your motherboard’s BIOS.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. Which Should I Opt for Between These Coolers?

Perhaps you want more overclocking capabilities for your high-end CPU or a device to cope with throttling issues. Whatever the case is, a suitable CPU cooler is essential. But if you don’t plan on overclocking and have a low CPU, your stock cooler should be able to get the job done.

Liquid cooling does a good job but will set you back some. That’s because it costs more even if it has the Best potential for cooling your system. However, if you don’t have a bigger budget and won’t mind a heavy heatsink from an air cooler, you can opt for an air cooler.

Air coolers can outperform the liquid ones in some cases, but you’d have to push them to the limit. However, you’ll find that they’re quieter when idle. Overall, AIO Liquid coolers are better.

h215i vs h200i: The Bottom Line

When your system’s CPU/GPU gets so hot, it’s no longer as comfortable to use. It makes every task much more challenging to perform. That’s why you need coolers such as these two from the Corsair brand.

Both offer excellent liquid cooling performances, and each one will appeal to a different type of user and their specific needs.

However, in figuring out the difference between h200i and h215i above, we’ve concluded that the Hydro Series h200i Pro RGB is the best, thanks to the fact it offers fantastic cooling power in a well-sized package. It also features some tremendous iCUE software functionality and a bit of RGB lighting to add some flair to your rig.

Corsair h200i RGB Platinum and h215i RGB Platinum Review | Introduction | Cases & Cooling

Introduction

Published: 1st November 2018 | Source: Corsair | Price: | Author: Mark Campbell

Introduction

I know what some of you are thinking. Isn’t this just an h200i/h215i Pro with RGB fans? That’s what we thought when this product came through our door.

We expected the same coolers and fancier lights, but we were wrong, very wrong. The h2XXi RGB Platinum series is more than just a repackaging of the h2XXi Pro series; there is a lot more to it than that. Both units are fundamentally different, changing the question from «Is RGB worth the small increase in price?» to «Is the extra RGB and Corsair’s performance increasing design tweaks worth the extra cost?».

The h2XXi RGB Platinum series brings the Corsair Hydro series into the era of addressable RGB illumination, adding two ML PRO RGB Magnetic Levitation (I prefer saying MagLev) fans, a thermally optimised coldplate design, a low-nose pump and a host of new options through Corsair’s latest version of their iCUE software.

Another notable change to the cooler is the addition of a tool-free mounting bracket, which can be adjusted to support every major CPU-type, even AMD’s large TR4 Threadripper processors. Fans of ultra-low-noise systems will also appreciate Corsair’s new «Zero Fan» profile, which will allow the AIO’s fans to be turned off until the unit’s coolant reaches 45-degrees. When your system is idling, the fans on an h2XXi RGB Platinum can be set to turn off, which can help lower your system’s noise levels.

h200i RGB Platinum 240mm CPU Cooler

The Corsair h200i has been with us for quite some time, kickstarting the AIO revolution be delivering water-cooling-grade performance with a price tag that is considerably lower than a custom CPU-only loop.

Since the series’ inception, a lot has changed on Corsair’s venerable AIO liquid cooler. The pump has gotten a lot quieter, the fans have been replaced with static-pressure optimised models with LED illumination and silence-optimized bearing technology, and the unit has been backed up by a software stack that delivers users a lot of options for fine-grained control, both aesthetically and in terms of unit noise levels and cooling performance.

In the UK, we have been told that the h200i RGB Platinum will cost £124.99, which is a mere £5 increase over the h200i PRO RGB on Corsair’s website. £5 for the addition of two addressable RGB fans isn’t exactly a bad deal, especially after considering Corsair’s other design changes.

The CORSAIR Hydro Series h200i RGB PLATINUM is an all-in-one liquid CPU cooler built for extreme cooling with a 240mm radiator and vivid RGB lighting from 24 LEDs. Two CORSAIR ML PRO RGB 120mm PWM fans run up to 2,400 RPM, alongside an optimized cold plate and pump design that delivers the high performance Hydro Series cooling. Take control with CORSAIR iCUE software to customize lighting effects and enable Zero RPM mode at low temperatures. Easy to install and compatible with most major CPU sockets, the h200i RGB PLATINUM pairs killer looks with chiller performance.

h215i RGB Platinum 280mm CPU Cooler

With the h215i RGB Platinum we will keep things simple, with its use of a larger 280mm radiator and dual 140mm fans it offers more surface area for heat dissipation and a larger coolant volume, two factors which will allow the AIO to deliver enhanced cooling performance when compared to its little brother.

In the UK, this unit will have an MSRP of £139.99, which like the h200i RGB Platinum is £5 more than the h215i’s PRO RGB counterpart, which is a shockingly low increase given the addition of two addressable RGB fans.

Description

Corsair iCue h215i RGB Pro XT liquid cooling system shipped in a medium-thick corrugated cardboard box. The design of the box is colorful, using branded yellow and black colors. On the outer planes of the box, not only the product itself is depicted in color, but also the main features, technical characteristics are listed, the equipment is indicated and there is a drawing of the radiator with the main dimensions. The inscriptions are made in several languages, including Russian. Papier-mâché mold, PE foam padding, PE foam covers and plastic bags are used to protect and distribute parts. The sole of the heat sink and the thermal paste on it are protected by a cap made of transparent plastic.

Inside the box are a heatsink with a connected pump, fans, mounting kit, USB cable, installation instructions and a description of the warranty.

Manual with drawings and explanatory inscriptions also in several languages, including Russian. The company’s website contains a description of the system, a PDF file with installation instructions, and a link to the distribution kit of the current version of iCue software. The system is sealed, primed and ready to use.

The pump is integrated in one unit with a heat sink. The sole of the heat sink, directly adjacent to the processor cover, is a copper plate (2.5 mm thick in the visible part). Its outer surface is ground and slightly polished. The plane of the sole is slightly (about 0.2 mm) convex towards the center.

The dimensions of this plate are 56×56 mm, and the inner part, limited by holes, is 45×45 mm. The central part of the copper base is occupied by a thermal paste applied with a thin layer.

Unfortunately, there is no reserve for its restoration in the delivery set. All tests used high-quality thermal paste from another manufacturer, packaged in a syringe. Looking ahead, we will demonstrate the distribution of thermal paste after all tests are completed. On Intel Core i9-7980XE:

And pump sole:

It can be seen that the thermal paste has spread over almost the entire area of the processor cover, and approximately in the center there is a large area of tight contact. Note that the cover of this processor itself is slightly convex towards the center.

And in case of AMD Ryzen 9 3950X processor. On processor:

On heat sink base:

In this case, there is also a large patch of tight contact in the center. (The thermal paste distribution has of course changed a bit when the processor and pump were disconnected.)

Thermal paste distribution on AMD Ryzen Threadripper 2990WX processor:

Pump sole:

The AMD Ryzen Threadripper 2990WX processor has a smaller footprint as a percentage of the processor lid area. It can be seen that the thermal paste layer is very thick towards the edges of the cover, and this processor has four crystals located with a shift from the center to the four corners. That is, one should hardly expect good efficiency when cooling AMD Ryzen Threadripper processors.

The base of the pump housing is made of hard black plastic with a matte finish, while the top is made of white translucent plastic. The top of the pump is covered with a transparent plastic cover with a mirror-smooth surface, on which a black coating is applied from the inside. The places where it is absent form the logo pattern. On top of the perimeter of the pump housing, there is a frame made of black plastic on the outside with a mirror-smooth surface.

The pump is equipped with a multi-color multi-zone (16 addressable RGB LEDs) backlight, controlled by a controller built into the pump. In plan, the pump housing is a square with bevelled and slightly rounded corners with a distance between the sides of approximately 62 mm. The height of the pump is only 36.5 mm. The length of the SATA power cable from the pump is 30 cm, and the length of the cable (one wire — only the rotation sensor signal) to the fan connector on the system board is 31 cm.see USB cable length — 63 cm (Micro-USB to socket).

The hoses are relatively rigid and resilient, they are sheathed in slippery plastic, the external diameter of the hoses with the sheath is approx. 10 mm. Hoses length — 35.7 cm (to sleeves). The hoses are not short, but there are also longer ones. The L-shaped fittings at the inlet to the pump rotate, which makes it easy to install the system.

The radiator is made of aluminum and has a matte black finish on the outside. Radiator dimensions — 323 × 137 × 27 mm. The complete system with fasteners for LGA 2011 has a mass of 1462 g.

The fan impeller is made of light gray opaque plastic with a matte finish.

No vibration dampers. However, they are usually of no use anyway.

Fan frame height 25 mm. Frame dimensions — 140 by 140 mm. There is no decorative braid on the cables from the fans, just like there is no braid on the cables from the pump, which makes installation easier. The length of the fan power cable is 57.5 cm.

The fasteners are mainly made of hardened steel and have a durable galvanized or semi-gloss black paint finish. Of note are the large knurled nuts that eliminate the need for tools when mounting the pump to the processor, and the fact that the mounting brackets simply fit into the slots on the pump, which is very convenient.

To control the operation of the cooling system, namely the operation of the fans, the pump and the backlight, you need to install proprietary iCue software on your PC. Let’s go through those functions that are directly related to the cooling system in question. To access them, you need to select the system in the main window.

It is possible to monitor the values of the coolant temperature, the speed of rotation of all two fans and the pump, including in the form of graphs for a certain period of time.

Backlight profile selection and customization available.

Fans and pump can be set to one of the preset profiles with different rotation speed vs. temperature, while for fans a low temperature stop profile is available.

The user can create his own profile with the dependence of the rotation speed on the indication of one of the temperature sensors available in the system.

You can also select the actions to be taken when the threshold values of the temperature sensor are reached.

Lighting modes with some settings can be viewed in the video below:

The Corsair iCue h215i RGB Pro XT system has a 5-year warranty.

Testing

A full description of the testing methodology is given in the corresponding article «Testing methodology for processor coolers of the 2020 sample». For the load test, the powerMax (AVX) program was used, all cores of the Intel Core i9-7980XE processor worked at a fixed frequency of 3. 2 GHz (multiplier 32). CPU consumption when measured by an additional 12 V connector on the motherboard under load varies from 269watts at 55 °C CPU temperature up to 294 watts at 100 °C. In all tests, the pump runs at maximum speed.

Determining the dependence of the cooler fan speed on the duty cycle of the PWM and/or supply voltage

An excellent result — a very wide adjustment range and a smooth increase in the speed of rotation when changing the duty cycle from 15% to 100%. Note that at a short circuit of 0% (more precisely, at 15% or less), the fans stop, which can be useful in a hybrid cooling system with a passive mode at minimum load. At 17% the fans start.

The change in speed is also smooth, but the adjustment range with voltage is noticeably narrower. The fans stop at 2.7/2.8V and start at 2.8/2.9V. Apparently, if necessary, it is permissible to connect them to 5V. all three voltages (12, 5 and 3.3 V).

Determining the dependence of the processor temperature when it is fully loaded on the rotation speed of the cooler fans

At short circuit = 20%, the system can no longer cope with the cooling of the Intel Core i9-7980XE processor, but this value corresponds to a rotation speed of only about 200 rpm!

Determining the noise level depending on the speed of the cooler fans

The noise level of this cooling system varies over a wide range. It depends, of course, on individual characteristics and other factors, but somewhere from 40 dBA and above, the noise is, from our point of view, very high for a desktop system; from 35 to 40 dBA, the noise level is classified as tolerable; below 35 dBA, the noise from the cooling system will not stand out much against the background of typical non-noisy PC components — case fans, fans on the power supply and on the video card, as well as hard drives; and somewhere below 25 dBA the cooler can be called conditionally silent. In this case, the entire specified range is covered, that is, depending on the fan speed, the system can be both noisy and very quiet. The background level was equal to 16.0 dBA (conditional value, which shows the sound level meter). The noise level only from the pump operating at maximum speed is only 18.7 dBA. The pump is very quiet. Note that when the pump speed is significantly reduced using the iCue software, the noise level from the pump increases.

Plotting the dependence of the noise level on the temperature of the processor at full load
Plotting the dependence of the real maximum power on the noise level

Let’s try to get away from the test bench conditions to more realistic scenarios. Let’s say that the temperature of the air taken in by the cooling system fans can rise to 44 °C, but the temperature of the processor under maximum load does not want to be raised above 80°C. Restricting ourselves to these conditions, we construct the dependence of the real maximum power (denoted as Max. TDP ), consumed by the processor, on the noise level (details are described in the method):

Taking 25 dBA as a conditional noiselessness criterion, we get the approximate maximum power of processors corresponding to this level. This is about 250 W for an Intel Core i9-7980XE processor. If you do not pay attention to the noise level, then the power limits can be increased somewhere up to 300 watts. Let us clarify once again that in harsh conditions of blowing the radiator with air heated to 44 degrees, when the air temperature drops, the indicated power limits for silent operation and maximum power increase.

You can use this link to calculate the power limits for other boundary conditions (air temperature and maximum processor temperature) and compare this system with several other coolers tested by the same method (the list is growing).

Testing on an AMD Ryzen 9 3950X processor

As an additional test, we decided to see how this coolant handles the cooling of the AMD Ryzen 9 3950X. The processors of the Ryzen 9 family are assemblies of three crystals under one cover. On the one hand, increasing the area from which heat is removed can improve the cooling capacity of the cooler, but on the other hand, the design of most coolers is optimized for better cooling of the central region of the processor. The specified processor and ASRock X570 Taichi motherboard were used in the tests. All processor cores worked at a fixed frequency of 3.6 GHz (multiplier 36). To set this frequency, the motherboard manufacturer’s A-Tuning program was used. The powerMax program was used as a load test (using the AVX command system). Processor consumption when measured on two additional 12 V connectors on the motherboard under load varied from 152 W at 59°C CPU temperature up to 164 W at 86 °C.

Dependence of the processor temperature at full load on the fan speed:

In fact, under test conditions, this processor does not overheat at 24 degrees of ambient air even at a short circuit of 20%.

Dependence of the noise level on the temperature of the processor at full load:

Restricting ourselves to the above conditions, plot the dependence of the real maximum power (denoted as Max. TDP) consumed by the processor on the noise level:

Taking 25 dBA as a conditional noiselessness criterion, we get that the maximum processor power corresponding to this level is about 137 W. If you do not pay attention to the noise level, then the power limit can be increased somewhere up to 150 watts. Once again, we will clarify: this is in harsh conditions of blowing the radiator with air heated to 44 degrees. As the air temperature drops, the specified power limits for quiet operation and maximum power increase. The result is noticeably worse than in the case of the Intel Core i9 processor-7980XE. However, provided there is enough good ventilation in the case, this cooler will quite cope with the cooling of the AMD Ryzen 9 3950X processor, but you should not count on the possibility of significant overclocking.

You can use this link to calculate power limits for other boundary conditions (air temperature and maximum processor temperature).

Testing on AMD Ryzen Threadripper

We also decided to find out how the Corsair iCue h215i RGB Pro XT system will cope with the cooling of the Ryzen Threadripper 29 processor90WX, the maximum consumption of which reaches 335 watts. The specified processor and Asus ROG Zenith Extreme motherboard were used. All processor cores worked at a fixed frequency of 3.5 GHz (multiplier 35). Load: Stress FPU from the AIDA64 package.

Dependence of AMD Ryzen Threadripper 2990WX processor temperature at full load on the fan speed:

In fact, the 2990WX processor overheats at 24 degrees of ambient air at fan speeds reached at a short circuit of 20% or lower (the voltage did not change — 12 V).

Dependence of the noise level on the temperature of the processor at full load:

The power consumed by the processor (total for two 12 V sockets for processor power) varies from 266 to 288 W as the temperature of the processor increases from 62 to 81 degrees. Restricting ourselves to the above conditions, we will plot the dependence of the real maximum power (denoted as Max. TDP) consumed by the processor on the noise level already in the case of AMD Ryzen Threadripper 2990WX:

corresponding to this level is about 220 watts. If you do not pay attention to the noise level, then the power limit can be increased somewhere up to 245 watts. Once again, we will clarify: this is in harsh conditions of blowing the radiator with air heated to 44 degrees. As the air temperature drops, the specified power limits for quiet operation and maximum power increase. The result for LSS not optimized for AMD Ryzen Threadripper is not bad, but worse than in the case of the Intel Core i9 processor-7980XE. This can be explained by the fact that the heat sink area (more precisely, its active part) does not cover the entire area on which the AMD Ryzen Threadripper processor chips are placed.

You can use this link to calculate the power limits for other boundary conditions (air temperature and maximum processor temperature) and compare this system with several others tested in the same way (the list of systems grows) with an AMD Ryzen Threadripper 29 processor90WX.

Pins

Corsair iCue h215i RGB Pro XT Liquid Cooling System can be used to create a conditionally silent computer (noise level of 25 dBA or less) equipped with an Intel Core i9-7980XE (Intel LGA2066, Skylake-X (HCC)), if the processor consumption under maximum load does not exceed 250 W, and the temperature inside the case does not rise above 44 °C. In the case of the AMD Ryzen 9 3950X chiplet processor, the cooler efficiency is noticeably lower, and in order to comply with the above conditions, the maximum power consumed by the processor must not exceed 137 watts. Processor type AMD Ryzen Threadripper 2990WX, this coolant can silently cool if the CPU consumption does not exceed 220W. With lower cooling air temperatures and/or less stringent noise requirements, the power limits can be significantly increased in all three cases. Modding enthusiasts will appreciate the pump’s addressable multi-zone RGB lighting, which will help decorate the interior of the system unit. We note the good workmanship, easy-to-use flat cables without braid, connection to the SATA power connector, convenient fasteners for the water block, as well as iCue functional software designed to control and manage the operation of this cooling system, and not only for this.

Corsair Hydro Series h200i RGB Platinum CPU liquid cooler overview

Computer users are increasingly choosing CBOs over air coolers to properly and efficiently cool their CPUs. There are several reasons. First, ready-made dropsy closed type have noticeably fallen in price; pretty good options cost no more than tower-format supercoolers. Second, performance and low noise; in harsh environments, a liquid cooling system will almost certainly run quieter. Thirdly, aesthetics; in most cases, modding enthusiasts will install CBO with RGB backlight in their PC. It looks impressive and modern.

With the rated heat dissipation of the Core i9-7960X, the reviewed liquid cooling module coped without any problems. The processor did not even warm up to 50 degrees.

Corsair has been producing high-performance liquid cooling systems for years, they are highly efficient, affordable and compatible with most platforms and cases. The new products are increasingly using RGB lamps, as a result, the user gets the all-in-one device (decent cooling for the CPU and bright backlighting that creates a cozy atmosphere in the dark realm of the case). A variant called the Hydro Series h200i RGB Platinum is one such solution.

Technical and functional features

Corsair Hydro Series h200i RGB Platinum is an easy to assemble (but extremely versatile) modification that is compatible with most processor sockets (there are even mounts for rare Socket TR4).

Many users are still convinced that CBO is a hassle that is not worth the energy expended. In the old days, when enthusiasts assembled dropsy in parts, such prejudices were really valid, but now everything has been simplified.

The Corsair Hydro Series h200i RGB Platinum is fully assembled and ready to go (out of the box). The mounting process is maximum transparent (as with an air cooler).

In the box with the reviewed modification, the user will find detailed instructions in Russian (with pictures). If you plan to use the Corsair Hydro Series h200i RGB Platinum to cool a processor compatible with Socket LGA 2066/2011 (as in our case), you don’t even need to remove the motherboard from the system unit (reverse plate for fixing the water block is also not needed).

Corsair Hydro Series h200i RGB Platinum is a great alternative to powerful super coolers.

First, you need to screw two bundled Corsair ML Pro PWM fans to a 240 mm radiator, then fix this design on the top or front wall of the case (it all depends on the case model), and then install the water block on the processor (four bolts). That’s all.

Only the numerous wires sticking out of the Hydro Series h200i RGB Platinum can scare you, but everything is simple here.

The SATA connector is for the pump, the 3-pin socket is for the CPU_Fan connector, one more cord is connected to the USB input on the motherboard, the four remaining connectors (4-pin) are attached to two fans and a water block (to synchronize the pump and backlight). The system is assembled, you can turn on the PC.

To monitor and fine-tune the Hydro Series h200i RGB Platinum, we recommend installing Corsair’s proprietary iCUE app. The program will help you choose lighting options (color, type of pulsation, etc.), adjust the efficiency of the pump and the fan speed. Although without software 9The 0990 automatic does an excellent job (RGB lamps are pleasing to the eye, and propellers accelerate only in the most difficult situations).

Performance and results

testing

Intel recommends cooling the Core i9-7960X with water , 165 watts is no joke (although we successfully removed heat from this behemoth with tower coolers).

«Water» in a modern gaming system is normal, you should not be afraid of it.

Corsair does not publish exact data on the maximum TDP of the Hydro Series h200i RGB Platinum, but it is obvious that for most desktop processors the capabilities of this CBO are sufficient.

With rated heat dissipation Core i9The -7960X reviewed liquid cooling module handled it without any problems. The processor did not even warm up to 50 degrees (on an open stand). It cannot be said that the Hydro Series h200i RGB Platinum fans worked absolutely silently (you could feel the characteristic air pressure), but in a closed system this format will be acceptable (they will not create obvious discomfort).

Corsair Hydro Series h200i RGB Platinum had sweat in earnest. Propellers reached their maximum , the rumble is appropriate (even tightly twisted hull walls will not save it from it). But the operating temperature of the 16-core processor did not go beyond decencies .

Intel Core i9-7960X and 4000 MHz

Manually it is quite possible to find a balance between acceptable temperature and noise level, profile software was created just for this.
