Add-ons in Installers — Toolbars and Others

More and more installers of free licensed applications include various add-ons that are installed by default alongside the main application. Most often, these are various toolbars, that is, plug-ins for Internet Explorer / Firefox browsers that add new toolbars. The function of the toolbar is to make it easier to use the web — a new toolbar usually has a new search engine, website links, weather icons, currency rates, etc. But in most cases toolbars perform the function of advertising your company (Google Toolbar, Windows Live Toolbar) or are the source of income and the condition that the application is free (Ask Toolbar, Conduit Toolbar). How to completely uninstall a driver from a Windows 7, 10, 11 system

Control Panel

In most cases, manually installed drivers can be removed like regular programs, that is, through the Control Panel. To do this, open the «Control Panel» (in Windows 10 and Windows 11, you need to press Win-R and execute the «control» command) and go to the «Programs — Uninstall a program» section.

Here you will see a list of all programs that are installed on your computer. In order to find the driver you need, you can use the search.

To uninstall a driver, simply right-click on it and select Uninstall or Uninstall/Change.

This will launch the installer responsible for installing and uninstalling the software. With it, you can uninstall the driver, just like it is done in the case of conventional programs.

Restart your computer to complete the uninstallation.

How to uninstall the previous version of the driver

Every time a driver is updated time after time, the old driver backups remain in the system, thus clogging up the hard drive and preventing the installation of new driver versions. To remove previous versions of the driver, write in «Search» (near Start) Command line or CMD , right-click on it and run from administrator name , then in the window that opens, enter the command cleanmgr .

In these two ways, you can ensure that your system only has the latest drivers for the devices you actively use. Depending on how many drivers you have backed up, you should now have enough free storage space.

Device Manager

The driver can also be uninstalled through Device Manager. If you are using the Windows 10 operating system, then in order to open the «Device Manager» you can simply right-click on the «Start» menu or press the Windows-X key combination and select the appropriate menu item.

In Windows 7, you can open the «Control Panel» and go to the «System and Security — System — Device Manager» section.

You can also just press Win-R and run «mmc devmgmt.msc». This option will work on all versions of Windows.

One way or another, the Device Manager window will appear in front of you. All devices that are connected to your computer will be displayed here. In order to remove the driver for one of the devices, right-click on it and go to «Properties».

In the properties of the selected device, go to the «Driver» tab and click on the «Delete» or «Delete device» button.

After that, a window for removing the device will appear. Here you need to activate the option «Delete the driver software for this device» and click on the «Delete» button.

Restart your computer when finished.

Unconnected devices

It should be noted that after uninstalling a driver, Windows may try to immediately download a new driver from the Internet and install it immediately. This is especially true for Windows 10 and Windows 11 where this happens very quickly. If you don’t want this to happen, just turn off the internet while you uninstall and reinstall the drivers.

The above method assumes that the device is connected to a computer. If you need to remove the driver of a disabled device, then this requires some additional settings. To do this, press the key combination Win-R and execute the command «sysdm.cpl».

How to remove a driver from a Windows 10 system

If you update your drivers to a new version without erasing the old version, then over time, old and unused versions will accumulate in the system.

To remove unused but still installed software, open ” Start ”-“ Explorer ”.

Driver Fusion

Driver Fusion () is a freeware full driver removal program formerly known as Driver Sweeper. Driver Fusion scans the system and finds all files and registry entries that are associated with the selected device. After that, the user is prompted to remove the driver and the found files.

To use this method, launch Driver Fusion and navigate to the Driver Cleaner section. Here you need to select the type of device (for example, video adapters) and the manufacturer (for example, NVIDIA).

Next, you need to wait until the program scans your computer.

After scanning is complete, click on the «Clear» button.

After uninstalling, restart your computer.

Display Driver Uninstaller
