Packaging and contents

Logitech products, as a rule, please us with nice transparent blisters, designed in corporate colors. This time it’s different: a small white rectangular box with a mouse on the front. The design is so simple that even the manufacturer’s logo is applied in black paint.

However, after opening the package, a pleasant surprise awaits us: inside the box is a mouse, which is housed in a black cloth carrying case. A sort of clothing for our «rodent», and comfortable.

In addition, in the package you can find a user manual, which is also designed as simply as possible and is a large sheet folded several times.

Appearance and ergonomics

The appearance of our mouse is strict and elegant at the same time. There are no frills in the idea of ​​glossy panels, silver inserts or rubber pads here. However, the mouse still attracts the eye.

The bottom and sides of the case are made of black matte plastic, matte and the upper part, but it is somewhat lighter, although you can’t call it gray. Plastic quality and pleasant to the touch. The panels fit perfectly — there are no backlashes and squeaks anywhere. The build quality is just excellent.

The mouse itself is medium in size and symmetrical in shape, which should definitely appeal to lefties. The sides, as well as the middle of the «back», are slightly concave inward, and closer to the front edge, the upper part of the manipulator expands somewhat. The lower one, on the contrary, becomes wider in the back, which affects the usability for the better.

The keys are large and wide, symmetrical, divided approximately from the center of the top of the case. The elasticity of the keys is average, they are pressed distinctly with a rather loud click.

There is a scroll wheel between the keys. As we have already said, it is not recessed into the case, but, on the contrary, protrudes from it, which makes working with it quite convenient. The wheel rotates easily, but it is pressed quite tightly, but at the same time, the pressure is clearly felt. In addition, he, as befits the wheel of a modern mouse, has a horizontal scrolling function. To the sides, it deviates as tightly as it is pressed, but, as in the case of pressing, the deviation is clearly fixed.

There is also a blue LED connection indicator where the top panel splits into left and right keys.

Software

For the full operation of the mouse, you need to install the SetPoint proprietary software, which is available for download from the official Logitech website. The distribution kit of the program occupies 50.6 MB on the hard disk.

After installing the program, we are prompted to turn on the mouse, after which it is recognized and the drivers are installed. In this case, the Bluetooth module on the laptop must be turned on by itself.

We will talk about how the mouse behaves after installing the drivers in the next part of our review, but for now let’s talk directly about SetPoint.

On the right side of the program window there are two tabs, the first of which is called «My Mouse» — it takes us to the mouse settings, and the second, «Tools», contains the software update options and help information.

The second section of settings contains scroll and pointer options.

The last thing that awaits us in this section is the ability to find out the remaining battery power. True, if you believe the promises of the manufacturer, users will have to look into this section infrequently, since the mouse should work for four months from a pair of ordinary batteries. Of course, we also saw much longer promised terms of work, but words often diverge from the real state of affairs.

The laser sensor proved to be able to handle almost any surface, including a varnished table top, on which the mouse felt just as confident as on a mousepad.

Positioning accuracy is just as good. This is evidenced by simple drawings made in the Paint graphics editor. The curvature of the lines here is in no way connected with the technical capabilities of the mouse — they are due to the fact that the drawings were made on a surface that is not the most convenient, and partly due to the artistic «talents» of the author.

The horizontal scrolling function works great and is very useful.

And finally, a few words about the quality of communication, considering that our mouse is wireless. There were no problems with communication either, the mouse worked perfectly within the room, not to mention close proximity to the laptop. Moreover, it is unlikely that anyone will use the mouse five meters from the laptop, and this mouse does not pull on the remote control.
