Among the countless number of identical and technically equivalent video cards, sometimes there are extremely curious specimens that deserve special mention. The Dual GeForce RTX 2070 Mini accelerator from ASUS is one of those. The basis of this video card is the familiar 12 nm TU106 chip with 2304 stream processors. In terms of hardware, the product will not surprise you with anything, but its appearance is quite.

The DUAL-RTX2070-8G-MINI modification reminds us of the glory days (15 years ago) when graphics adapters were not yet bulky. If not for the informative box and talking logos on the solution itself, ASUS Dual GeForce RTX 2070 Mini could be mistaken for the low-end of the early 2000s (the DVI connector once again confirms this fact).

ASUS Dual GeForce RTX 2070 Mini has only one 8-pin connector for additional power supply.

In fact, this is a fairly powerful accelerator from NVIDIA with support for real-time ray tracing technology, capable of easily digesting a detailed high-resolution image.

We will not discuss the technical aspects of the novelty in detail, because the DUAL-RTX2070-8G-MINI is the classic version of the GeForce RTX 2070 with all following (144 texture units , 64 ROPs and 8 GB of GDDR6 memory) . Instead, let’s talk about the most interesting features of the solution, the main of which is a shortened PCB.

The creators managed to place all the necessary hardware elements on a miniature printed circuit board, by the way, only one 8-pin connector is provided for additional power supply to the ASUS Dual GeForce RTX 2070 Mini (550 W PSU is enough for stable operation). In addition, the core/memory clock speeds are not reduced compared to the reference version seventies .

ASUS Dual GeForce RTX 2070 Mini is far from the hottest video card, in Furmark the chip heated up to 68 degrees (open stand). During the passage of stress tests (for example, 3DMark), the propellers reminded of their existence, so this video card is definitely not 100% silent. However, in a closed system, it will not cause much discomfort to the owner.

The reverse side of the PCB (where the chip is separated) burns fingers, which means that it is advisable to ensure effective air exchange in the case.

It is important that the power elements do not emit almost any annoying sounds (only a slight whistle is occasionally noticeable if you get as close as possible to the ASUS Dual GeForce RTX 2070 Mini). There is no obsessive cod, squeak and whine.

By the way, we forgot to answer one of the key questions. Why was such a video card created at all? ASUS has a clear answer. It’s all about the growing popularity of mini-ITX compact gaming systems. Last but not least, the Dual GeForce RTX 2070 Mini is designed for installation in Intel NUC 9 gaming systems.Extreme Kit and NUC 9 Pro Kit.

The compact size is not only a plus, but also some limitations. On the rear panel, the owner will find not the most impressive number of interfaces, but, in our opinion, everything you need is there (one HDMI, one DP and forgotten, but still in demand DVI).

The 2070 Mini is weaker than the beefy GeForce GTX 2070 Super, but slightly more powerful than the GeForce RTX 2060 Super (although we thought the would be significantly faster than the Super sixties ).

Thus, in camp green the alignment of forces is as correct as possible (in full accordance with NVIDIA’s ideas). Does the DUAL-RTX2070-8G-MINI have an AMD competitor? Naturally, it is called the Radeon RX 5700 XT.

Why don’t all graphics manufacturers take the approach chosen by ASUS as a basis (although we understand that this is a one-off product)? From the transition to miniaturization in the assembly of a gaming PC, everyone (primarily users) would benefit.

It is premature to talk about mass migration to such a format, but for those who want to join it now, we strongly advise you to take a closer look at the DUAL-RTX2070-8G-MINI modification, which we could not find in domestic retail.
