Starbucks K-Cups

Starbucks standard K-Cup coffee pods have on average 130 mg of caffeine per 8 fluid ounce cup. Starbucks 2X (2x caffeine) pods (formerly Starbucks Plus) have 260 mg per 8 fluid ounce cup. The 2X variety contains coffee and additional coffee extracts.

Lighter roasts will contain slightly more and darker roasts, slightly less. But, all coffee pods will vary in caffeine so 130 mg and/or 260 mg is the average amount to expect.

How Many Shots?

The caffeine amounts of the espresso-based drinks show that a Tall Latte (and Cappuccino) has just a single shot of coffee. For a 12 oz cup size – this is quite weak and has considerably less caffeine than a brewed coffee of the same size.

Most conscientious coffee vendors serve at least a double-shot in drinks over 8 ounces. Most provide double-shots (by default) in regular takeaway cups. This is because many takeaway cups tend to have more volume than their china or crockery counterparts.

Starbucks Caffeine Deception?

In 2020 a class-action lawsuit was filed against Starbucks claiming that they are cheating customers out of caffeine.

The suit alleges that most customers believe a larger sized cup means more caffeine. However, their espresso-based drinks – both the short and tall as well as the grande and venti – have the same number of shots (and therefore the same amount of caffeine).

What people are paying for is more milk and syrups and not more espresso. The suit claims that this is fraud under California law.

This practice is typical of many coffee chains that have a set espresso shot formulation when making drinks. Customers should be aware of how many shots are in each size cup.

Starbucks does a great job of publishing caffeine information but many people don’t have the app or our website up when standing in line to order.

How Accurate Are These Amounts?

Starbucks makes it clear that “caffeine information is approximate and is based on limited analytical data. ” and also that “Values can vary greatly based on the variety of the coffee and the brewing equipment used.”

They publish caffeine amounts in their online menu and also the app.

Here are a few independent tests that showed some discrepancies from what Starbucks lists.

In 2017 BuzzFeed found Starbucks Brewed Coffee to average about 17 mg/ounce or 272 mg per 16 fluid ounces (Grande). This is about 60 mg less than what Starbucks reports.

However this was just a single test.

Beware: Decaffeinated Drinks Still Contain Caffeine

Decaffeinated isn’t the same thing as caffeine-free.

A 2006 lab test of Starbucks coffee showed the following:

Decaf Brewed Coffee – 12.0–13.4 mg/16 fl oz serving (Starbucks have decided to list considerably more caffeine than this – 25 mg per 16 fl oz).
Decaf Espresso – 3.0–15.8 mg/shot.

Yes, and other places, it’s more like a spa and relaxation, but, alas, the weight of this, alas, does not go away. Revital about the combined approach. But let’s talk about stingrays … So we are in the West Indies, Lesser Antilles, of which there are actually 3 Antigua-Barbuda and Redonda. The first two were discovered by Columbus and were named Ancient and Bearded in 1493 years old Arriving in the capital of St. John’s for half an hour we get to the country of stingrays.

By the way, let me remind you that since 1632 Antigua has been a British colony, and since 1981 an independent state in the British Commonwealth with the head of the Queen of Great Britain. I want to come back to this wonderful place and just sit and breathe in the sea air. ..

I only have to look at the beauty of the Sulak Canyon from a helicopter… Going to Dagestan, I did not even imagine that the region is fraught with real natural treasures …Here you can make world-class resorts. I already see a hotel overlooking the canyon, where people will come just for the weekend to enjoy the beauty of the view with beautiful balconies that offer this amazing panorama … And let me tell you how you can organize a weekend here?
