No icon from Realtek HD Manager! How to enter the Realtek control panel, otherwise I can’t set up the sound in any way

Good day!

Realtek HD is probably one of the most popular audio drivers that allows you to fine-tune the sound level and quality in Windows. To open its parameters, you need to launch the Realtek Manager, the link to which should be either in the tray (next to the clock) or in the control panel* of Windows OS.

* By the way, a link to the audio driver control manager (in the control panel or in the tray) should be for any sound driver, unless, of course, you have its full version installed! nine0009

But, recently (due to the fact that Windows 10 «installs» the drivers on its own) — there are no links to the Realtek Sound Manager ! However, faulty versions of the software may also be «to blame» …

Actually, below I will analyze in sequence what and how to do so that the cherished link (label, icon) appears …

Help!

The volume icon does not respond or disappears altogether… What to do — https://ocomp.info/propal-znachok-gromkosti.html

«Manual» check

«, and in the folder «Program Files» find the directory «Realtek» . If there is such a directory: most likely it should contain the file «RtkNGUI64.exe» — try to run it by clicking on it with LMB (note: this is the dispatcher).

Trying to manually start the dispatcher

If the manager starts up and you can start setting up the sound, just create a shortcut for this program (by right-clicking on it) so as not to look for it every time.

Removing the «old» version of the driver

Further, whatever version of the driver you have, I recommend removing it completely. This can be done from the Windows Control Panel. See screenshot below.

Note: By the way, the latest Realtek 2.82 driver is broken. When I install it on my PC, the icon on the sound control manager does not appear! nine0009

Remove the old driver

If the driver asks you to restart your PC — agree!

If you have a PC

Having tested several versions of the Realtek driver — it turned out that «Flyage» of them is only one, the last 2. 82 (and then, only on some machines!). After checking several older versions of the audio drivers, we were able to determine that 2.81 is a completely correct-working release. Links to them are provided below. nine0003

  • Realtek HD 2.82 (link to official site). You can try it first, if it doesn’t work, uninstall the driver (see step 1, 2 above), and install the 2.81 version.
  • ⭐Realtek HD 2.81 ✔ (Link to techspot.com). Correctly working version of the audio driver. I recommend!

If you have a laptop

In this case, I recommend determining its exact model, and then find audio drivers for it on the official website of the manufacturer. I would advise you to download several versions at once (especially the package that weighs* more than the others). nine0003

  • *In my case, there are several of them: interestingly, if you just install the latest version from May 22, then the link to the sound manager will not appear!
  • If you install the very first release first (it weighs more than the others), and then update it with the latest version, then everything will work correctly!

Installing the new audio driver

Installing the audio driver itself is not difficult — just run the executable file and wait for the wizard to complete. After, restart your PC/laptop.

Installing another version of Realtek HD 2.81

After the reboot, I recommend that you immediately open the control panel, set the display mode to «Large Icons» and see if a link to the Realtek Manager appeared (in my case, after installing version 2.81 — everything worked!). nine0003

Note: if the icon does not appear in the control panel, then open the driver settings by running the file RtkNGUI64.exe/RAVCpl64.exe from the folder C:\Program Files\Realtek\Audio\HDA (as we did in the STEP one).

The Realtek HD Manager has arrived!

Actually, then you can start to fine-tune the sound (problem solved?!).

PS (updated 04.2022)

In the latest versions of Windows 10/11, the Realtek management console has also appeared in the Microsoft Store* (? link to it). After installing it, a link to the Realtek panel will appear in the START menu and in the Windows SEARCH (in which there will be all the basic sound parameters). See example below.

  • Almost all motherboards now come with an onboard sound card. In most cases, the manufacturer of such equipment is Realtek, which also supplies software for sound settings. After installing the appropriate drivers, some users are faced with the task of opening this GUI software to change the configuration. In Windows 10, there are several methods to perform this operation. Today we will tell not only about them, but also give known troubleshooting methods, if suddenly the Realtek HD Manager does not open for some reason.
    nine0003

Before starting to analyze the methods, we want to clarify that the sound control panel we are considering today will appear in the OS only after installing the appropriate drivers downloaded from the Realtek official website or from the motherboard or laptop support page. If you have not already done so, we recommend that you study the instructions below, where you will find a detailed description of all available methods for installing the software, which includes the Realtek HD Manager.

See also: Download and install sound drivers for Realtek

    Method 1: Taskbar

If you look at the bottom bar in Windows 10, namely its right side, you will notice a number of system and third-party icons there that are responsible for quickly launching background applications. If the Realtek HD Manager has been added to autorun and is already in the active phase of its work, you can open the graphical menu through this panel, which is done in just a few clicks.

    1. Look at the taskbar. If the Manager icon is not on the first line, click the up arrow icon to display additional applications. nine0096
    2. There, find the icon shown in the screenshot below, and click on it with the left mouse button.
    3. Wait a few seconds for the control window to open. After that, you can start setting up the sound.

Sometimes the icon you are interested in is not shown on the taskbar due to the fact that its display was disabled in the system settings or this option was reset for some reason. We recommend checking this by doing the following:

    1. Right-click on an empty space on the panel and select the last item in the context menu Taskbar Options .
    2. In the window that opens, go down a little and click on the inscription «Select the icons displayed in the taskbar» .
    3. Look for «Realtek HD Manager» and make sure the slider is set to «On.» . If it is not, just move it and you can close this window by checking if the icon is displayed. nine0096

At the end of this method, we want to note that in some situations, the display of the considered icon on the taskbar is not possible, or the Manager constantly closes its work, not functioning in the background. Then the user is prompted to create a new toolbar, specifying the path to the Realtek HD Dispatcher executable file, in order to start working with this application at any time. This is suitable even in situations where you simply do not want this software to function constantly in the background. nine0003

    1. To do this, right-click on an empty space on the taskbar, hover over «Panels» and select item «Create Toolbar» .
    2. In the browser window that opens, navigate to C:\Program Files\Realtek\Audio\HDA and click on «Select Folder» .
    3. The taskbar will now display an icon labeled «HDA» . Click on the arrows to the right next to it and select one of the executable files to launch the Dispatcher. nine0096

You just learned about the easiest way to launch the Realtek HD Manager. If suddenly you couldn’t find either the icon or the folder with the program itself, immediately move to the troubleshooting section to fix this situation. In case this method is not suitable, check out the two presented below.

    Method 2: Control Panel

After installing all the necessary drivers, a separate section is added to the Windows 10 Control Panel, through which the program we are discussing today is launched. If you are interested in doing this method, follow these steps:

    1. Open «Start» and search for the application «Control Panel» .
    2. Here, find the line «Realtek HD Manager» and click on it with the left mouse button.
    3. Now you can start setting up the sound through the open menu.

Method 3: Realtek HD Manager Executable

During the first method, you may have noticed that when you create a toolbar, you go to the root of the folder where the Realtek software is stored. The executable file located there can be used to open the sound settings menu. To do this, you only need to follow a few simple steps. nine0003

    1. Open File Explorer and navigate to the system partition where programs are usually installed.
    2. Navigate to Program Files\Realtek\Audio\HDA to get to the root of the required directory.
    3. Run the executable file «RAVCpl64» here to open the graphical menu. If, after a few seconds of waiting, the menu still does not appear, try pressing «RAVBq64» or «RtkNGUI64» .
    4. If you need to launch this application faster, right-click on it and select 9 from the context menu0008 «Create Shortcut» .
    5. Confirm placing it on the desktop.
    6. Faster navigation to the graphical menu via the desktop icon is now available.

These were all the methods to start the Realtek HD Manager. You just have to choose the one that suits you in order to quickly open the graphical menu and configure the speakers or microphone. If there are any problems during this process, we suggest that you familiarize yourself with the possible solutions below. nine0003

Solving problems with launching Realtek HD Manager

In most cases, problems with launching the application in question are associated with incorrect functioning of the sound driver, and the constant closing of the Manager causes it to be absent from startup. Let’s look at all this in more detail.

Adding Realtek HD Manager to Autorun

Autorun applications in Windows are loaded when the operating system starts up and run in the background or foreground. If the Realtek application is not on this list, it will terminate after each system reboot and, accordingly, the icon on the taskbar will also disappear. You can fix this situation by simply adding software to autorun, which is done as follows:

    1. Right-click on an empty space on the taskbar and select Task Manager from the context menu .
    2. In the window that opens, go to the tab «Startup» .
    3. Find «Realtek HD Manager» there and set its status to «Enabled» .

Now you will be sure that the application will start automatically after rebooting the operating system and you can access it through the corresponding icon on the taskbar. nine0003

    Reinstalling the Realtek driver

Sometimes audio control panel startup problems are due to outdated or incorrectly installed drivers. In this case, it is better to reinstall them. To do this, the old driver is first removed, and it is best to do this through the Applications menu.

    1. Open Start and go to Settings .
    2. There, select section Applications .
    3. Look for line «Realtek High Definition Audio Driver» and double-click on it with the left mouse button.
    4. After that, wait for the uninstall preparation to finish.
    5. Confirm the removal of the selected application and all its components.

The only thing left to do is to re-install the appropriate driver. We left a link to instructions on this topic at the beginning of this article. Use it to make the correct installation.

    Alternate audio setup

Sometimes the above instructions don’t work and the application in question still doesn’t want to start. This may be due to the specifics of the driver or the software features of the motherboard itself. However, there is an alternative method of adjusting the sound using the driver options, which also allow you to control the effects and equalizer. nine0003

    1. To do this, open «Start» and go to menu «Settings» by clicking on the gear icon.
    2. Here you are interested in item «System» .
    3. Through the left panel, move to the category «Sound» .
    4. Find the inscription «Sound Control Panel» and click on it LMB.
    5. Select the desired playback source and double-click on it with the left mouse button.
