- For some games, a cpu with a higher clock speed, or in a technical name IPC (Instructions per clock), has better results than other CPU’s with higher core count and lower core speed.
i9-9900K
- The i9-9900K has higher Level 3 Cache. This is useful when you have substantial multiprocessing workloads, many computationally intense simultaneous processes. More likely on a server, less on a personally used computer for interactive desktop workloads.
- The i9-9900K has more cores. The benefit of having more cores is that the system can handle more threads. Each core can handle a separate stream of data. This architecture greatly increases the performance of a system that is running concurrent applications.
- The i9-9900K has more threads. Larger programs are divided into threads (small sections) so that the processor can execute them simultaneously to get faster execution.
- The i9-9900K has a higher turbo clock boost. Turbo Boost is a CPU feature that will run CPU clock speed faster than its base clock, if certain conditions are present. It will enable older software that runs on fewer cores, to perform better on newer hardware. Since games are software too, it is also applicable to them.

Intel Core i9-9900K vs.
Core i7-8700K vs. Core i9-7980XE CPU Benchmarking i9-9900K test / Core i9-9900K test — admin
Intel Core i9-9900K vs. Core i7-8700K vs. Core i9-7980XE
Today we will study the performance of three Intel flagships of different generations and platforms — Core i9-9900K, Core i7-8700K and Core i9-7980XE (sorry not i9-9980XE, but everything will be in the future).
Test participants worked in automatic mode out of the box. In all cases, 32 GB of RAM with a clock speed of 3000 MHz was installed.
Core i7-8700K — 6 cores, 12 threads, clock speed 4.3 GHz (when loaded on all cores) and maximum 4.7 GHz.
Core i9-9900K — 8 cores, 16 threads, clock speed 4.7 GHz (when loaded on all cores) and maximum 5.0 GHz.
Core i9-7980XE — 18 cores, 36 threads, clock speed 3.4 GHz (when loaded on all cores) and maximum 4.2 GHz.
Testing
We will test in several games, but first — professional applications and benchmarks based on them.
Cinebench R15. Everything here is to be expected. More cores — better results. Clock speed also has a big effect.
Corona Benchmark is a photorealistic renderer for 3ds Max. Likes a lot of cores and their frequency. But the dependence on the number of cores is much higher than on the frequency.
V-Ray Benchmark — automatic testing of another renderer for 3ds Max. Dependence on the nuclei and their frequency — on the face.
The situation is similar with V-Ray Next, a renderer for 3ds Max 2019.
Let’s check the performance in the case of still up-to-date V-Ray RT.
POV-Ray — imaging by ray tracing.
Results in Adobe Premier Pro CC are also expected.
Convert FLAC to MP3 — 320 tracks with a total volume of 10.7 GB. The LameXP program processes up to 32 threads simultaneously.
WinRAR archiving.
7-zip archiving.
Video encoding x265, FullHD.
Video encoding x265, 4K.
3DMark Time Spy CPU test results.
And now some games.
Conclusion
The Core i9-9900K is the processor that takes professional applications to a new level of performance within «standard» desktop systems. There are, of course, some features — good cooling is required for both the processor itself and the power subsystem of the motherboard. But if you think it all through, you can get a high-performance work or gaming system in both Full Tower and miniITX format. Price? Yes, it is quite high in our market. But there are simply no analogues — 5 GHz on all cores, 4000+ MHz memory and RTX 2080 Ti in a compact package? When using liquid cooling — not a problem. And there are simply no competitors. Does it make sense to take i9 for games-9900K? Here, perhaps, it is better to look at the i7-9700K, which, with some manipulations in the BIOS, is not inferior to its older brother. But in professional applications that are demanding on the number of computational threads, it will not be able to reach the level of i9-9900K. Very briefly, games + work — i9-9900K, but only games — i7-9700K.
