Differences
DDR3 and DDR3L memory modules have the same form factor, so you won’t notice the difference visually. They are mechanically compatible. They are identical in size, key position and number of contacts (240).
Mechanical compatibility DDR3 and DDR3L
DDR3L memory was originally designed for use in laptops, netbooks and low power desktop PCs (L stands for Low) ie. reduced supply voltage to 1.35v. The standard for DDR3 is 1.5V. In modern DDR4, the voltage is 1.2v and there is no division into Low and the usual type of memory.
DDR3 modules are usually labeled PC3, while low-voltage memory is labeled PC3L.

You can install DDR3 in a slot for DDR3L without problems, but it may simply not start there due to a lack of power. Here you can also solve the issue using the settings in the BIOS, but only increase the voltage on the memory to the required values.
The memory chips themselves and printed circuit boards for the brackets also differ in quality and inherent overclocking, cooling and operation at different frequencies and in a certain voltage range. Thanks to this, the RAM has a certain flexibility of settings and the ability to make heterogeneous memory work in the most productive and stable mode, but only in capable hands.
To control the voltage supply to the memory, there are many more options for ordinary PC users than laptop users.
It turns out that in many cases it is possible to make a DDR3 module work with a motherboard and a processor designed for DDR3l. But, as a result of all the efforts made, it is easy to get an unstable computer.
