    Dualcore intel pentium d 945 3400 mhz

    Heat generated, W

The amount of heat generated by the processor during peak load. The lower this figure, the easier it is to cool this processor model.

Additional information: This processor requires an updated revision of the motherboard to run. Older Smithfield boards do not work with this processor.

Hello everyone And so to say hello, it’s not simple, but from the past, from the moment when dual-core processors of the Pentium D family came out (it was a cool time). Model D945 was released in 2006, it was not the top processor at that time, but it was clearly spinning around it ..

    The

Pentium D945 is made according to the 65 nm process technology (it’s good that at least not 90 nm), it has 2 cores and the cache size is 4 MB (2 MB for each core). Frequency 3.4 MHz, TDP 95 Watts. The temperature regime of the processor will be adequate only if you put a normal cooler, all the same, this is 95 watts and 65 nm technical process, all this means that the processor is not cold.

What’s interesting is that the percentage of the characteristics is somehow better than mine. And I have a Pentium G3220 on socket 1150, and I have only 3 MB of cache, and the frequency is only 3 GHz. But of course, in fact, the G3220 is much faster than the D945, still ten years difference. It’s just that many users do not know that some models from the past are far superior in parameters to modern ones. For example, take the same Q9650 and compare its parameters with some Core i3 model.

What else can I say about the Pentium D945? Unfortunately, there are no threads here (Hyper-threading technology), I mean that they are in the D955 or D965 model. And 2 cores have 4 threads, respectively, in Windows it can be seen as 4 cores! But these models are of course hotter, and it’s not so easy to find them, rare, so to speak.

Here is a screenshot of CPU-Z utility with info about D945:

As you can see, here the processor is overclocked to 4 GHz, this is possible even without the use of water cooling. The main thing is to have a more powerful radiator, well, that is, larger, for example, Noctua NH-U12P SE2, Thermalright Silver Arrow IB-E Extrem. Yes, this is certainly not a cheap pleasure, you can look for a little cheaper. But, keep in mind one thing, these coolers are omnivorous, that is, they support both the 775th socket and modern ones, for example, 1150. And popular AMD sockets support it. Although buying such a cooler for a Pentium D seems a little strange… In general, when choosing a cooler, always look at the supported sockets — when changing platforms, you can save on the cooler. Well, I hope you understand0157

Can I install Windows 10 on a Pentium D945? Yes, you can! Here is an example of a screenshot, here is also a Pentium D, but the model is slightly younger — D940:

But as you can see, both cores are loaded, but you know what? Multiple tabs in the browser. Yes, the sites there, well, so to speak, multimedia, entertaining, when they are opened at the same time, the Pentium D940 processor is completely clogged. But nothing hangs, just slows down a little. In general, you can work and quite tolerably. In any case, Pentium D is better than the same popular Pentium 4 630 (there is only one core). Well, as popular, I mean among the old processors

And if you overclock the D945, then I think that it will still fit for an office PC. If you also put an SSD, it will be even better! I see the main disadvantage of the D945 only in its consumption, it is quite voracious. But on the other hand, the motherboard for this processor costs a penny. And the processor itself is even cheaper. That is, the motherboard + D945 kit will cost you … well, a maximum of $ 20. I consider this a plus, despite the power consumption. Especially when you consider that the D945 will run many old games, for example, NFS Most Wanted. In short, you can make a gift to some schoolboy ..

And in general. I’ve been sitting on the Pentium 4 670 for a long time, yes, it seemed to be not enough for everything, and although this is the most powerful single-core processor. However, I was able to learn the AutoIt scripting language on it, easily coded, well, wrote small programs. That is, you can work, it’s not deafness. Although most likely not everyone will agree with me. For me personally, deafness is a 370 socket, there are already really hellish brakes, you can’t even look at the Internet, because it hangs everywhere.

By the way, for the D945 I recommend using Windows XP, it’s the ideal system for this processor, as for me. But it seems to me that it’s better not to install Windows 7, after all, it will be a little slow on D945, especially when you consider that it consumes more RAM. By the way, I can advise you a super-fast browser for old computers, I recently discovered it for myself and it’s just something! It is called Pale Moon (made on the basis of Mozilla), in general I advise

    The

D945 runs on an 800 MHz bus, which is nothing special. But the model is a little older, well, D955, D965, then there is already a 1066 MHz bus.

In general, that’s all, I hope that everything is clear to you and this info was useful to you
