Which power supply do you need?
1. Power supply requirements for desktop PCs
Note that the following only applies to desktop PCs.
Power supplies for laptop PCs are always designed with the correct Wattage.
The power supply is a very important component. An inferior quality power supply or too low Wattage may cause your desktop PC to reboot if it cannot cope with sudden spikes in demand while you’re using Lumion and other demanding 3D applications.
For that reason, we strongly recommend using a power supply from a reputable manufacturer such as Corsair, Super Flower, EVGA or Seasonic.
The power supply should ideally be marked as Gold-rated 80+, Platinum-rated 80+ or Titanium-rated 80+, which means that it is very efficient and can maintain a steady current in spite of fluctuating demand.
2. Which power supply do you need for common desktop PC graphics cards?
Here’s an overview of the power supplies you need for high-end NVIDIA GTX graphics cards:
- NVIDIA GTX 1060: Minimum 400W gold-rated power supply. We recommend at least 550W.
- NVIDIA GTX 1070: Minimum 500W gold-rated power supply. We recommend at least 650W.
- NVIDIA GTX 1070 Ti: Minimum 500W gold-rated power supply. We recommend at least 650W.
- NVIDIA GTX 1080: Minimum 500W gold-rated power supply. We recommend at least 650W.
- NVIDIA GTX 1080 Ti & Titan Xp: Minimum 600W gold-rated power supply. We recommend at least 750W.
- NVIDIA RTX 2070: Minimum 550W gold-rated power supply. We recommend at least 700W.
- NVIDIA RTX 2080 & 2080 Ti: Minimum 650W gold-rated power supply. We recommend at least 800W.
Examples of high-quality power supplies:
- Bitfenix Whisper M Series 750W “80 Plus Gold”
- XFX XTR Series 750W “80 Plus Gold”
- Super Flower Leadex GOLD 750W “80 Plus Gold”
- EVGA SuperNova G3 750W “80 Plus Gold”
- Corsair RM Series RM750X 750W “80 Plus Gold”
- Corsair RM1000i 1000W “80 Plus Gold”
- Super Flower Leadex Platinum 750W “80 Plus Platinum”
- EVGA Supernova P2 750W “80 Plus Platinum”
- Corsair AX850 850W “80 Plus Titanium”
- Seasonic Prime 600W Titanium Fanless
3. How many Watts does your power supply need?
This will depend on the graphics card and how many components, hard-drives and other components your desktop PC has.
3.1: Please click here to look up the minimum required Wattage if you have an NVIDIA graphics card.
3.2: Please click here to look up the minimum required Wattage if you have an AMD graphics card.
We recommend adding about 150 Watt to the NVIDIA or AMD recommendation to be on the safe side.
IMPORTANT NOTE FOR DELL & HP OWNERS: Some power supplies in Dell and HP computers with high-end graphics cards are known to make the computer restart when you start rendering Photos or Movies in Lumion. A number of users reported that the reboots stopped occurring after they replaced the Dell/HP power supplies with power supplies from reputable manufacturers (80+ gold-rated or better and with a sufficient Wattage).
Unless you can replace the power supply with a more suitable one, you will need to limit the amount of power to the graphics card via an app called MSI Afterburner, so that the graphics card runs slower. This will prevent the PC from restarting in most cases:

Can you please tell me if the Corsair RM850x unit is enough for 4 pieces of 1070 ti?
In most tests, I see that their consumption is 150 watts, i. e. it turns out 600 + 100 for everything else, but in the table on one fairly popular site I came across a consumption of 180 watts, in this situation it turns out too close. nine0022 Need your advice.

core 150 / memory 600 / Pl85 = 150 watts on both gigs and asus. But I decided on Corsair RM850x for every 2 pieces, stupidly so that it was calmer and in reserve.

and a carcass of 100 — 150 watts here, in any case, take 1000 or 2 for 750 sometimes the latter comes out cheaper, see that there are enough wires — 1 braid 1 card and also

Thank you, can you advise a better option for this iron or is this corsair a good choice? As an option, I can take for example Cougar CMX 1000W [CMX1000].

Not enough. I have 4 * 1070ti hanging on a 1000 watt block. Titanium. Consumption from the outlet 750-800 watts, on equihash.

Power is enough if you don’t drive hard and limit the consumption of cards to these 150W (PL 80-83%), but for connection — there is not enough cable, but there is an extra connector in the PSU — it will be necessary to make it for the 4th card .

In short, now I’m thinking of taking a pair of RM750x, the money will not be much more expensive, but more stable and with a margin of 6 vidyuhi. Looks like he didn’t mess up anything.

A similar question — you need a power supply for 4 * 1070ti (more precisely, 2 blocks for 8 cards). if everything is clear with power, then with the number of wires, so that 4 * 6 pins and 4 * 8 pins were not entirely clear. Can someone name specific models?

My 1070ti consumes 128 watts maximum.
I am planning a farm of 2×1080+3x1070ti. In downvoltage, the Corsair HX1000 (1kW) should be enough.

I’m more concerned about the number of braids with connectors . . Or will I have to collective farm something?

{{bloglist.date}}In this article, we would like to focus on the MSI Aegis desktop power supply and the VR capabilities of the MSI Aegis X model.
Power Supply MSI Aegis
Many users will say that a 350W PSU will never power a GTX 1070 graphics card. But don’t fall for idle talk — look for scientific evidence.
Some gamers are confused when they find an NVIDIA GTX 970 graphics card in an MSI Aegis desktop paired with a mere 350W power supply. Please allow us to prove the absolute effectiveness of our power supply for such powerful graphics. nine0007
This time for testing we took AEGIS with the NVIDIA GTX 1070 graphics. The results showed that AEGIS with the NVIDIA GTX 1070 in full load consumes a total of 294 W. of the capacity. We also launched several popular games for comparative results. After our tests, you will definitely believe in the ability of Aegis to fully work with the NVIDIA GTX 1070 graphics card! nine0007

AEGIS power supply with 350 W power supply. nutrition? The reason lies in our specially designed nutrition system. Traditional blocks have 3.3V, 5V and 12V power lines, but in the traditional circuit some of them remain unclaimed. The 3.3V and 5V lines are not used and are redundant for users. As you can see in the example below, if we remove the 3.3V and 5V power lines, the power consumption is 22W. Looking at the Aegis power circuit, we only see the 12V supply line. Thus, we can provide the system with all 350 watts of power and provide the NVIDIA GTX 1070 card with the necessary power. nine0007
